I'm trying to decide which is the best view. Saint Ives or the Office at home.

I'll be at the Bring and Byte tomorrow, I could bring your drives if you like.

I'll sort it out for RF.

It was a dual drive you were after wasn't it? Get me john@glasstty.com if it's easier.

John Newcombe @glasstty.com · 30/03/2026

Speaking of being overwhelmed with stuff, is this the sort of stuff you were after?

The veneer was pretty easy to do even on the corners. My original Horizon case was 19mm thick. The new one was built with 18mm ply, so with the veneer, ended up very similar. I think some Horizon cases were made of thinner ply though.

The sad thing is that the tuning is so critical that I had to tune the RTTY unit using FLDigi and the SDR. :(

If you are interested in trying out an Acorn System 1, but don't have deep enough pockets for an original, then you could try out a 'System 1 Trainer' by Chris Oddy. He also does replica boards for the Acorn Atom amongst other things!

Day 159 - #retrorandom - It was a happy day in 2020 when I eventually got one of the most stylish little computers ever made - the Alice 90. What does it have 90 of? No one is sure. Not kilobytes of memory, that's for sure (it has 32). But who's going to nitpick when you're this gorgeous?

The Museum of Computing would like to thank @shortcircuit.org.uk for organising the amazing RetroFest event in our home town of Swindon. It was a pleasure to collaborate with them and we met so many wonderful visitors and exhibitors. We look forward to supporting next year's event!

Do you need some teletext advertising? 😄

194

John Newcombe @glasstty.com · 25/05/2025

...I never got round to looking at the bug but it's to do with screen wrapping so I suspect it will have no impact on Elite. It would be a rare thing to have a version that Roy (@loudscotsbloke.bsky.social) doesn't have.

John Newcombe @glasstty.com · 25/05/2025

Mame has a minor bug in the display which I noticed when I wrote the Prestel software last year, otherwise it's a good emulation. I even have a real system you can test it on...

John Newcombe @glasstty.com · 25/05/2025

You're welcome, anything else you want to know, just ask.🙂

John Newcombe @glasstty.com · 25/05/2025

The System 3 has the Teletext video card so all you need to do is port the Mode 7 version. Only a couple of hours work surely 😁.

John Newcombe @glasstty.com · 25/05/2025

I'll be there with as much Prestel junk as I can fit in a reasonably priced hatchback along with some of my favourite badges.

Weekend to myself. Mrs B is off to Lisbon to visit daughter. Going to do my soak testing and packing for RetroFest. Then a short week - bank holiday for those of us in the UK on Monday, and then I'm off on Friday so that I can take my time loading up and travelling down to Swindon. retrofest.uk

Scream-face.jpg Perhaps spending all afternoon trying to get sigrok to recognise my saleae clone analyser isn’t the best use of time. It’s interesting that all variants fail with the same error though.
