As an ex-Soviet, I’ve found totalitarianism creates deeply traumatized people who spurn western ideas of healing and view the world with a cynical, brutal lens. This cynicism makes them think they’re immune to propaganda. Ironically, this false confidence is what makes them so susceptible to it.
