On this day in 1972, three armed robbers entered the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts through a skylight. They stole 18 paintings, including a Rembrandt. Today, the paintings are worth an estimated $28.4 million. Only one painting was recovered. The robbers were never identified.
Newspaper clipping showing five small reproductions of paintings and a bold headline reading "Bandits swing down from museum skylight, steal $2 million in art," with a caption noting five of 18 paintings were taken from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

People confuse wealth with intelligence, or with good business skills. Wealth is ultimately tied more with luck, luck of being born into a society which rewards certain families, genders, races and classes to access. A lot of wealthy people are idjits.
