Ed Miliband must step in and bar Tesla from holding an energy licence. Elon Musk is a threat to our national security and clearly not a fit person to operate in our energy industry. We can’t have the lights go out because he’s having a strop on X.
“Elon Musk’s Tesla given go-ahead to supply electricity in Great Britain.” A subheading underneath says: “Ofgem licence means firm can replicate Texas setup of powering homes, businesses and EVs.”

In these troubled times I think the IAU needs to reconsider the labelling of constellations, and their often fearsome nature might overspill into human affairs. So I propose that what was formerly Leo, should be called Otis (or canis ventrem fricans - dog needing tummy rubs)
Picture of the constellation Otis (formerly called Leo) taken from my back garden, overlaid with a picture of a maltipoo dog, called Otis, on his back looking for belly rubs. The fit between the dog photo and the layout of the constellation stars is not exactly perfect...but, you know!

Can we please stop using the term 'hallucinating' for when AI spews out garbage. Can we use Projectile Vomiting instrad. It makes a mess, and the immediate priority is to let everyone knows the mess is there so that they can avoid it. The next priority is to clean up the mess, which is a joy.

I had no idea how small the Conway Stewart Dinkie was, until one arrived this morning. Shown against a Lamy Safari for scale. The Dinkie needs a new sac, but wrote really well with a dip test.
Two fountain pens on a desk with their caps off. One the left a clear plastic Lamy Safari. On the right a lever filling marbled blue/black Conway Stewart Dinkie 550 pen. Without the cap the Dinkie is only 92mm long, whereas the Safari is 130mm long.

Fabulous thread explaining why the data about possible exoplanet does not support the conclusions. In addition to poor science communication, from Uni Cambs, it is amplified by poor science reporting that's endemic here in the UK

Talking to fascists is ridiculous & pointless. Don’t take my word for it. Listen to that of an Irish Holocaust survivor
Sir, - Having experienced fas-ism in the flesh, as a citizen of a Nazi-occupied country, a member of the resistance and a concentration camp prisoner, I am pro-
foundly
dismayed
by
Kevin
Myers's reflections on the happenings at TCD on the occasion of the David Irving debate.
If fascism could be defeated in debate, I assure you that it would never have happened, neither in Germany, nor in
Italy, nor any-
where else. Those who recognised its threat at that time and tried to top it were, I assume, also called
"a mob".
Regrettably
loo many
"fair-minded
people"
didn't
either try, or want to stop it, and, as I witnessed myself during the war,
accommodated themselves
with it when it took over. The anti-fascism
of some of rather
when
realised that the Third Reich had
lost the war, the
Führer
was
becoming an his
embarrassment and
system
of
government
liability.
People who witnessed
fascism
at its height are dying out, but the ideology is still there, and its
apologists are working hard at a comeback. Past experience should teach us that fascism must be stopped before it takes hold again of too many minds, and becomes useful once again to some powerful interests, as it happened in the thirties, or in Chile. 1 am
one
hundred
per cent behind the
students and staff of TCD, and congratulate them for showing the way. - Yours, etc..

I think there's a big difference between what people think of when they hear about Bluesky blocking, and what it actually means in practice for most of us. So I made a diagram.
An image of two pie charts, side by side.

The first pie chart is labeled "THE BLOCK-DRIVEN ECHO CHAMBER
(Theory)"
It has a small blue segment labeled "Stuff I agree with" and a much larger second segment labeled "An entire world of opinion that I’ve closed myself off from hearing".

The second pie chart is labeled "THE BLOCK-DRIVEN ECHO CHAMBER
(Practice)"
It has a series of multi-coloured segments labeled: "Stuff I agree with", "Interesting things", "Art I’ve never seen before", "Funny shit", "People I like", "Experiences I wouldn’t otherwise hear", and "Learning about other cultures". These coloured segments take about three-quarters of the chart.
The remaining grey quarter, at a distance from the center, is labeled "Engagement farming with the same bullshit that already surrounds me elsewhere"

Etymology of the day: before a tapering piece of hanging ice was called an ‘icicle’ it was an ‘ickle’. In the Middle Ages people decided to add ‘ice’ for extra oomph and (tautologically) called it an ‘ice ickle’, until the two words eventually blended together.
