My brother is far too talented. This has to be one of the coolest birthday cards I’ve ever received!
The front of a handcrafted birthday card with a picture of Princess Donut from Dungeon Crawler Carl series. She has a crown on her head and glasses with dark frames and pink lenses. A bomb and dirty Shirly are in front of her. Flecks of red paint representing blood surround her. The text reads “This is an Outrage”The inside of a birthday card that reads “Goddamit George, Mongo is appalled at how old you are. Happy Birthday”

This past week I’ve been working night and weekends to help support a project at work after the kids have gone to bed. And I gotta say, while I couldn’t do this all the time, I don’t hate occasionally working extra when I know my effort is going towards making things better.

So often I get pulled away from actual implementation to do architecture, software design, requirement solutioning, code review, etc. So it’s always good when I can step away and do something at home for myself, because (and it’s always a good reminder)… Coding is fun!

Most similar to New Jersey and closest city being Philadelphia? They might be on to something…
A screenshot of a dialect map of the United States. The areas are stronger red in the northeast and in particular New Jersey and Pennsylvania indicating a dialect similar to mine. While the rest of the county is blue indicating a dialect least similar to mine. A description says I talk like someone from New Jersey and my most similar city is Philadelphia, PA.

Corn season is starting to wind down, but still have a couple more dishes up my sleeve. Tonight did a summer corn carbonara!

I find Reacher to be a stupid fun show. But this season (or at least the first episode of it), is filmed partially in Philadelphia. I can forgive the cliches (you know they’re coming) and the non-Philadelphia locations (due to production), but one part irked the Philly in me…

She stands, 3/4 view, looking hesitant/suspicious. Just behind her is a black man with short micro-dreads, smiles in a casual stance. He wears a green bandana, an open brown vest, tan long sleeved shirt, and a gun holster at his side.

You cannot technically explain yourself out of UX issues, please stop trying. So often I see users bring up UX issues, and programmers then tell them how much work it was to create their product. It doesn't matter how much work it was!! What matters is if your target audience uses it or not.

RIP to the incomparable Sam Neill
How long has it been since you've seen the original "Jurassic Park"?

SAM NEILL The last time I watched it in its totality was sitting beside Princess Di at Leicester Square at the London opening.
On the other side of me was my son Tim - he was 11 and completely swept away by it, but about the time the T-Rex turns up, Tim started to fart. And the draft was drifting across me to royalty! I spent the whole film in a muck sweat, thinking, "Princess Di is being exposed to the horrors of a little boy's fart, but she's going to think it's me. I am going to be subliminally blamed for my son's crimes, and I don't think she'll talk to me afterwards." But she was well brought up and never mentioned it.
JEFF GOLDBLUM I love that story, Sam.
I've heard him tell that a couple of times, and it's just amazing the lengths that he will go to still blame the boy.

Most code doesn't require the amount of test isolation modern test runners apply by default. If you only opt into the amount of isolations you need, you can easily run 1000 tests in 1s.

It would appear that @thorstenball.com understands my definition of fun
An excerpt from Writing an Interpreter in Go: "Most people that recommend using a parser generator, when others want to get started with interpreters and compilers, only do so because they’ve written a parser themselves before. They’ve seen the problems and solutions available and decided it’s better to use an existing tool for the job. And they’re correct - when you want to get something done and are in a production environment, where correctness and robustness are priorities. Of course you shouldn’t try to write your own parser then, especially not if you’ve never written one before.

But we are here to learn, we want to understand how parsers work. And it’s my opinion that the best way to do that is by getting our hands dirty and writing a parser ourselves. Also, I think it’s immense fun."
