I'll say more if I decide to stick around -- I'm at Parkland College tryin' to help folks who want to figure out basic math. I ride my bike a lot. I'm still here for now.

Yes, and NPR just doesn't *touch* on that powerful facet that can shove all that affordability stuff into the background.

I suspect it happens probably hundreds of times a day. One example: Every time somebody here getsrun over by a driver ('downloading ring tones,' 'reading a map') they tell us the'll be charged with things like "improper lane use." Oh, assault and domestic abuse?

I am in Cap Haitien interviewing people deported from the United States. I have been doing this kind of work for almost a decade and it literally does not get more dire than this. People have lost everything they built in the U.S. and are terrified and have no place to go or way to live.

So let me know if you want to come to a virtual talk next wk on “Reimagining Leadership.“ Time tbd. The focus is on cultivating critical, creative, and caring capacities in medicine, but I think it applies beyond that. I’m pretty sure we can do this without any leaders.
Ruha’s title slide for “Reimagining Leadership” with a quote by Saidiya Hartman: “Care is the antidote to violence.”

"There are other lessons, just as insidious, just as damaging: students do not see their writing as valuable, important work. They are trained to not believe that what they are doing -- thinking, researching, writing -- is worthy of legal protection; is worthy of the effort," writes Audrey Watters.

Anyway, I'll start taking this coverage, pitched as "accountability" pieces, when the NYT stops doing the "Reverse Emails" (bsky.app/profile/mcop...) & starts covering the crimes & lawless authoritarianism the way it covered Hillary Clinton's email server & Joe Biden's age in 2016 & 2020.
