That’s the second landslide that was post -flood. This is the one that was ultimately the cause of the flood: earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/...

4-panel comic. (1) PERSON 1: We haven’t checked in on the geology department for a while. I wonder if they’re doing okay. (2) PERSON 2 with ponytail: I’ll go see what they’re up to. (3) [Person 2 opens door to room where a person is gesturing at a projector screen and explaining to two other people] PERSON 3: 49 million years ago, Heart Mountain, Wyoming slid sideways 15 miles like a giant stone hovercraft. (4) PERSON 2 [returning to Person 1]: ...They’re not okay. OFF-PANEL PERSON: Hey, *you* come up with a better explanation!

When is the last time you've seen a faculty job ad for a Quaternary Geologist? Not that it's dead or irrelevant, but it's just doesn't resonate with most folks. We sent out a survey, but there's enough 'old guard' around (I speculate) such that, I think, 60% wanted to keep the name. (2/2

I struggle with GSA. Awesome organization that does great things for students, but I agree QGG is becoming less and less relevant while the geomorphology community is booming. I'm not sure why. When I was on the QGG panel, I really pushed for a name change. (1/2)

I'm not sure that's all run up. The pre-imagery clearly shows an active/unstable slope. The run-up may have simply undercut that slope, expanding that unstable area:

Can we now stop saying that once suspended sediment returns to pre-event levels, then the system response is over? Great paper here with relevance to cascading hazards and landscape evolution.

Software engineer: Off-by-one error in the population calculations. Geologist: The area was originally a uniform plane, but the non-baby parts eroded at higher rates. Meteorologist: Moist ground-level turbulent mixing.
