Why does Mg²⁺ block NMDARs while Ca²⁺ permeates? Leveraging large #cryo-EM datasets, we visualized hydrated Mg²⁺ and partially dehydrated Ca²⁺ to address some aspects of this classic question, and we complemented this with extensive electrophysiology. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
