TIL active lightning rods are a thing. look at this angry bastard. it tries to, faster than Zeus himself, fire its own lightning (early streamer emission innit) back at the sky to beckon a strike to hit it instead of something more important. long live the fantastical hubris of NF C 17-102

brochure ad for the Indelec Prevectron 3 Connect IOT connected lightning rod. it is a cone-shaped metal thing with several pointy things at the tip aimed at a center upwards spike, a large metal band just beneath that, and several sharp looking triangular spikes aimed downwards in a cone. a bit beneath it is a small solar panel.

This. Good code should make you go "oh...Oh that's CLEVER" Or "Oh shit... that's how that works!" These responses are genuine and human, and the same sort of 'oh that's how that brush stroke works!' from art. It's creative writing that DOES COOL THINGS.

In 1980, Intel introduced the 8087 floating-point coprocessor chip. Plugging this chip into your IBM PC made math 100 times faster, good for CAD and spreadsheets. I opened up the chip to reverse-engineer exactly how it does complicated calculations. Let's take a look inside...

The integrated circuit is a black ceramic rectangle with 40 metal pins sticking out, in two rows. (This is known as a DIP, a Dual Inline Package.) It has three rows of text: "D8087-1", a cryptic version label, and then the copyright line with a big lower-case I, INTEL m c 1980 1984. The m and c are in circles for the mask-work symbol and the copyright symbol. The chip has a small semicircular notch on the left side, indicating its orientation. The package consists of two thin ceramic layers, bonded together with a gray substance; the metal pins stick out from this gray substance. The ceramic package is important to me because tapping the gray layer with a chisel will cause the two layers to separate, revealing the silicon die inside. In contrast, most chips are in epoxy packages, which are very difficult to open, usually requiring strong acids.

bloomfilters.neocities.org/journal/boys... relatedly is the thing

Q. You want to raise every boy as a girl?

Yes.
Q. Why?

A boy will learn to hate girls as long as he is raised in such a way where he is treated as better, and superior to, his girl peers, whenever he is cruel to girls. So, instead, we raise boys as girls.
Q. What if they say they are not a girl, and want to be acknowledged as a boy?

Then you know they are a boy, so you must make sure to understand them as a boy, and not a girl.
Q. What does it mean to be "raised as a girl"?

That's up for you to decide. The only difference is that you should not raise boys any differently than you raise girls, since you raise every boy as a girl.

Q. Girls and boys are raised in specific ways for specific purposes, so it does not make sense to raise boys as girls.

If you raise every boy as a girl, then there is no being which is not raised as a girl, so anyone raised as a girl necessarily must learn to do anything and everything to grow up, without restrictions on tasks, labours, or interests.
Q. But boys and girls are different.

All two girls are different, and raising girls in one specific way destroys this individuality in favour of moulding girls to serve the same master. Still, the girls resist to live life on their own terms. If girls can be raised such that they know they can do anything they want, including not being girls, so too will boys raised as girls.
Q. Why not raise every girl as a boy?

Because if a girl does not exist among boys, then the girl is made.
Q. Why not raise girls and boys as themselves?

The self must be made in a world where girls and boys can first and foremost be themselves. One step towards this goal is to raise every boy as a girl.
Q. The way people raise girls is cruel, so why would you raise boys with that cruelty?

If you raise girls with cruelty, then you should stop being cruel to girls.

The two last kernel updates on Debian 12 were a wild ride: - linux-image-6.1.0-52-rt-amd64 had a sloppy iwlwifi driver making the wireless NIC stall - linux-image-6.1.0-53-rt-amd64 makes intel GPUs hang in some situation. Is microslop now doing QA :o ? Holding to 6.1.0-51-rt for now...
