At least it appears that you're able to see out of the Cadillac. Grace, pace, and (enclosed) space.

Not thrilled with pimping anything off Substack but this was gratifying in its iconoclasm.

George Saunders: (on.substack.com/p/model-beha...)
Q: Have you spent time trying to write or revise with AI? Is there an experiment that would be interesting enough to try?

Saunders: I have not. Not for a second. To me, this whole idea of using AI to write is . . . anathema. A thing to be most radically avoided.

Writing is the most precious way one person can communicate their essence to another person. I’ve spent a lifetime trying to get better at making myself present in my writing. Why would I want to sacrifice even one iota of that? Not even in an email and certainly not in a short story or novel.

The Jaguar looks like an early proposal for what became the Celestiq after they were able to move on from current trends and do something progressive and elegant. The proportions are okay but the detailing (especially that Cliff of Dover nose) is...ahem. The Cadillac is a damn starship.

Better living through chemistry. Just switched out of a seemingly moderate dose of generic Vyvanse that made me feel like I was constantly wired (with multiple side effects that we won't mention here but yeah problems) to a lower does of also-generic Concerta which seems to be Oh, Yes, This.

Need to schmooze the provost about promotion to associate professor and/or figure out a side gig. Racing has been a part of me forever and it's a tragedy that I haven't been able to make it a real part of life.

Tech aside, it was wonderful to get back up there for the first time in far too long. Had a pleasant chat with @vintageracer.bsky.social, discovered that Lancia Fulvias do have small but usable back seats, if someone saw me sticking the brim of my cap in everyone's car I was studying pedal spacing.

If my Photos app/accessible photo library/Bluesky connection was working properly I'd be posting a batch of slightly wonky photos and video clips from Lime Rock (gripe: camera autofocusing on guardrails instead of the track) on a lovely autumn day for the VSCCA season finale.

What's the sector as a whole doing right now? i4s are phasing out so not that, but curious about Ioniq 5s and the new Leaf and a few others. But that Equinox especially. Daaaaamn.

Airbus flies A350F freighter in challenge to Boeing
Airbus carried out a maiden flight of its delayed A350F freighter on Tuesday, hoping to loosen Boeing's decades-old grip on a vital and profitable part of global trade.

52 (no, this is not a contest!) and recent but I've known for ages; still nice to have the "yes, really" confirmation. Vyvanse is not perfect but definitely helps.

Probably terrible to drive but who cares? Back when the term "exotic car" meant something and Lamborghinis were the undisputed emperors of that realm: freakishly rare, slightly diabolical, hinting at another reality. Do I remember the last Urus I saw? No. Do I care about seeing another? No.

Late postscript but still: Seeing a LaMooTwo was an Event, kind of like watching a tornado from a reasonably safe distance. It stuck with you. (Birmingham, the stretch of Woodward that curved around downtown, 1989?. Red. Passenger obviously having a grand time gave a bug-eyed me a thumbs-up.)

The LM002 was an absurdist sculpture with a great roaring twelve produced in really tiny numbers. I see an Urus in its bro obnoxiousness meets crossover confirmity about every week. They exist on completely different levels that will never come close to each other.

Anyone who describes either my conversations or especially my sexual activity (as someone middle-aged in what amounts to a two-decade-old marriage) in these terms will need to have their own conversations with a doctor soon after the next time we meet. Ouch.

Silicon Valley has a deeply weird cognitive distortion. Ever since the death of Steve Jobs, nobody there seems to understand a fundamental fact about human nature: People like nice things. Not only do people like nice things, they will pay a premium for things that are recognizably nice.

I have no idea if the linked article is the reality-based journalism it is portrayed as being or a Haruki Murakami-esque short story. I do know that it does not make me feel good about modern life or the future.

To be fair that price included an equally first-generation Apple Imagewriter. Tucked in my mess of a personal archive I still have a few high school papers that in their dot-matrix approximations of fonts feel like handling the Dead Sea scrolls.

We had a legit first-gen Macintosh, the 128K version, that Dad bought from someone at his machine tool company for what still feels like a disturbingly high number of 1985-1986 dollars. It was used for many school papers and Flight Simulator sessions until the board died in mid-1991.

Convert the wall-sized screens (which still exist) to pocket screens and it is about three years off of being modern dark-humor satire instead of distant sci-fi cautionary tale. This one was formative for me in a couple ways.
