I love my octopus mug designed by @geepranks.bsky.social. It's my favourite from a series of sea creatures and fish. Why is the hashtag #mugcheck and not #mugshot? Somebody missed a trick there.

The majority of about half the circumference of the mug is taken up by a hand painted, comic book style red octopus with a number of irregular black spots and large, slightly startled eyes. On the right hand side of the base of a head is a light green sea anemone, in the same position someone wearing a flower in their hair would be.
It's holding a hand mirror in the second arm from the left. The first arm on the left is curled upwards, the one in front is folded sideways with suckers on the underside. The arm on the far side has a sea anemone stuck to the end.
The octopus sits on a large blue coral, covered in various anemones. There are two small smiling fish at the bottom of the picture, grey body with three black stripes.
Above the octopus a jelly fish with a pink dome and four purple tentacles is swimming towards the right.
On the top left edge you can just about see a yellow sea horse.
Below it is an orange text:

I came across an outdated guide on image grid sizing crop/proportions for bsky earlier, and I felt it was important to create an updated version! Please use this new guide instead!

Up-to-date BlueSky Crop Aspect Ratio
Crop Sizes for Bluesky as of 18 Oct 2024

By default, single images are uncropped. If image is too tall (Exceeds the 1:2 aspect ratio) then it will be cropped. Single images that are too tall may be scaled down but aspect ratio is preserved

With two images, both of them share a square aspect ratio of 1:1

For three images, the first image is square (1:1) while the other two are half-squares (2:1)

And for 4 images, all of them are 3:2

@clarknova.bsky.social did a double take when I saw my art as your icon lol. (I don't have a problem with it, it just surprised me, especially as I haven't been on bsky for months 😂).

No, seriously. That place is a complete shitshow. I can genuinely feel my will to live fading when I see how hateful and manipulative people are on there. Blocking anyone on here who looks like they're going down that road lol

Missing Thought Bubble for the third year in a row. This year there were the usual financial issues but the double whammy of losing an Arts Council England grant and family bereavement means I couldn't swing it either way. Maybe next year. 💔

Y'all, discoverability is harder than ever. With Twitter all but gone and publishing being --in a mood-- your favorite authors are floundering. We don't know how to reach our fans or find new readers. Telling someone about a book you love is a really big deal. That's the #1 reason people buy books!

Seriously two of the most stressful weeks of my life so far. My dad died, I got rejected for an Arts Council England grant that was around 11k, I had to go all the way back to Sheffield because Fedex would not redeliver a package, and it ended up not having the right stock in it after all.

The fall of current social media is really terrible on the creative landscape, and on top of everything else and especially for those of us who don't live in the hub cities or look mostly for private clients. No matter if small or big, we're all bleeding. Support your favorite artists if you can. 🧡
