Solitude builds an armoured fortress. It carves spiralling columns and lays polished floors. It fills the room with haunting music. Maddening music. It plants sumac and ivy and devoures every inch of the empty, unused. Finally, it protects nothing but itself. Solitude by solitude for solitude.

North-eastern hungarian countryside, ripe with summer warmth, seen through the window of an old train. The seat is multicoloured plush and marroon pleather. You can't see it from the picture, but I'll tell you: it smells of wood and warm dust, and sweat and sunshine.

I carry the shame of being unused. My mind sought tools to build a kinder world. I painted a portrait of the weary stranger, so the lonely can recognise a friend in need. I didn't think that portraits will become redundant like coins.

I don't want to be soothed when the situation is dire. I don't want to be distracted when the stakes are high. Perhaps there's no better way, but I'd rather find that out for myself. A future I fear is still better than perpetual timelessness.

Rural coastal scene, abstracted into simple forms of organic shapes with a largely red flat landmass on the right foreground and pale yellow water on the left which bleeds down into the red. There are a couple of dark blue headlands or islands, one on either side as the water changes to pale lime on the right close to the horizon with blue strands of rock while in the centre faintly in the distance on the horizon are two more very pale blue islands or headlands that almost blend into the sky which is a soft whisk of pale blues and green with touches of alizarin.
