Surely he has to resign again to let the people of Clacton prejudge the resukt of the police investigation? It’s much more serious than the investigation he resigned over last time…

The Southport riots in 2024 felt like rage spilling into our streets. The Dover and Portsmouth protests feel far more planned, far more organised. And, frankly, they scare me a hell of a lot more.

What Happened In Dover and Portsmouth Should Scare Us
Not because hundreds of men protested, but because they appeared disciplined, coordinated and ready to do it again.

Our criteria for success are disastrously skewed. In my view, a successful person is one who does more good than harm, on any scale. On this measure, most billionaires are massive failures, while humble folk in my neighbourhood who look after other people are highly successful.

Let alone the fact we work in buildings decades, if not a century or more old that are often or for for purpose (the struggles during the recent heat waves illustrated that) along with very outdated IT and infrastructure....

The sheer volume of unpaid overtime many, many NHS staff carry out regularly, coupled with very large real terms pay cuts due to sub inflationary rises should make it crystal clear that there is little to no fat to shave.

SMRs are PCN DES, not core QoF - QoF tends to be more disease/ system specific currently (big change this year is 4 pillars for heart failure with rEF and omission for HTN control from the moderate to severely frail). Apologies for all the 3 letter acronyms!

Agreed QOF is a big driver of over treatment, eg antihypertensive control- but patients coded as CFS6 or more can be excluded from QOF for numerous age/ frailty related conditions and allows for more personalised (de)prescribing- if the pt is properly diagnostically coded (a major obstruction) Cli

Excellent point regarding cognitive impairment. We GPs aren't great at getting across DAMNS day rules to patients at the best of times as well.

New research shows private firms made £1.6bn in profit from the NHS over the last two years. That money could have paid for over 19,000 nurses. Private companies shouldn’t be profiting from the terrible state of the NHS. Read: www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Asked the Artemis II crew what kind of ride they're in for on reentry — going from nearly 40x the speed of sound to a 20 mph Pacific splashdown. Won’t be as smooth as a space shuttle landing but I know they can handle it. So proud of this crew.

I agree with you - the point I'm making is the UK is a very expensive unproductive country now, and many groups, especially pensioners with no private pension or little capital (who as you said worked & paid taxes in the understanding they would have a liveable state pension) are now affected .

Dr Gareth Kelly @gazk.bsky.social · 06/04/2026
I agree, but I think the major issue is it has always been, for want of a better term, a Ponzi scheme as the original recipients' pensions were paid for by those then in employment, and general productivity in the UK is now very low with increasing g life expectancy no one legislated for.

Make some noise. Share this post. 🚨 The Israeli government has granted itself another means to dehumanise, suppress, and kill Palestinians. Israel is violating international law.
The image says, "PRISON SENTENCE FOR ISRAELIS, DEATH SENTENCE FOR PALESTINIANS." It also says, "Israel's death penalty bill is a reminder: this is illegal occupation, functioning as intended," with the OXFAM logo below.

Under the new Crime & Policing Bill drs will have to report all sexual relationships between under 16s and 18+ to police & social services. This will destroy trust & deter young patients from seeking sexual health advice. It'll be harder to help vulnerable teens because they will stop talking to us.
