I feel certain somebody on Bluesky will want to see this picture of an otter playing the piano.
An otter at Edinburgh Zoo reaches through a mesh to play a colourful toy piano. In the background, less talented otters roll around, and the foreground is framed by a neon green drink bottle. It was difficult to hear in the noisy environment, but we think the piano piece was Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no. 2.

What's your sign?
A sign in the window of a Cancer Research charity shop. In large capital letters it reads "We are unable to take any more books till possibly next week". Underneath in much smaller type it reads "Thank you for your understanding". A sunny sky is reflected in the window and the most interesting item for sale is a statuette of a 1920s flapper.

Salisbury Crags wildfire still going at 1am. Can smell smoke indoors half a mile away. Flakes of white ash falling in the street like a hint of snow.
A view through trees of wildfire on Salisbury Crags, Edinburgh. Murky green foliage forms a frame around a hillside aglow with orange light. Plumes of flame rise from the gorse.

Just back from Edinburgh's big annual book sale. Picked up a Belgian timeline of early ecclesiastical writers from the estate of a bishop. And a Jack Reacher.
Interior view of Synopsis Scriptorum Ecclesiae Antiquae, published 1953. It contains a fold-out timeline of writers from 60 AD to 460 AD, labelled in Latin. The rows record Roman emperors, notable events, popes, and geographic regions. Between 360 AD and 410 AD a startling amount of detail is included. The Jack Reacher book, Never Go Back, is not pictured.

Today is the day to repost this meme about International Men's Day, one of the most unironically wholesome memes that has ever been made. Shoutout to all my fellow champs, chiefs, and kings. ✊
Nerdy kid at keyboard:
Hi guys, I've noticed that it is International Men's Day today, and I'm confused. Why do we need a day to talk about men? We're not a marginalised group like women, queer people, or people of colour. The media is already full of stories about men.

Big buff shirtless dude at keyboard:
I'm glad you asked, champ. Whatever your view on men's place in society, it's still true that we face a lot of issues - like social isolation, risk of suicide, health problems, and attitudes towards sex and child rearing. Having a day to talk about those doesn't take away from anyone else's problems. In fact, having a day to talk about them helps us be more mindful, and listen better at other times.

Second shirtless buff dude on a couch at his laptop:
The chief here is really on to something. I want to echo what he said, and also point out that the idea we should remain silent about our problems actually contributes to a lot of our issues. We are human beings, with human needs. Seeking mutual support and understanding isn't the same thing as placing a burden on others. Especially if we're providing it for each other.

Third buff dude at his laptop:
Right on, my fellow kings. We've inherited a social legacy of competition and division, and a lot of what makes a man in our era is under question. IMD is a chance for us to examine and rethink what we are together, and build the bonds of solidarity and support that will make a better way possible - like in this meme. Because in our hearts, we're all curious kids and buff guys on keyboards.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 999: It’s not just the story that matters, it’s the person telling it. Your stories are filtered through your experience, your culture, your upbringing, your identity. Don’t be afraid to let it show. Those things matter. You matter.

Secret project.
A cluttered kitchen table with evidence of creative activity. In the centre is a partially-hidden manuscript annotated in pale blue. Within text marked as 'Ali part one' are the phrases 'jellyfish queen' and 'distortion and shivering drone notes'. Under 'Josh' we can read 'blessing on a boat's prow' and 'I hang seaweed'. To the left of the picture is a black device with a grid of buttons lit up in blue, white, yellow and orange. The columns are labelled in orange LED with words such as 'hammers', 'bassdrum' and 'magnus'. To the right of the picture a laptop computer displays an enigmatic grid and controls for an audio mixer. Other items scattered around include a black notebook with a retro sticker of a Scotch VHS tape and a mostly concealed packet of hummus crisps.
