I feel certain somebody on Bluesky will want to see this picture of an otter playing the piano.
An otter at Edinburgh Zoo reaches through a mesh to play a colourful toy piano. In the background, less talented otters roll around, and the foreground is framed by a neon green drink bottle. It was difficult to hear in the noisy environment, but we think the piano piece was Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no. 2.

What's your sign?
A sign in the window of a Cancer Research charity shop. In large capital letters it reads "We are unable to take any more books till possibly next week". Underneath in much smaller type it reads "Thank you for your understanding". A sunny sky is reflected in the window and the most interesting item for sale is a statuette of a 1920s flapper.

Salisbury Crags wildfire still going at 1am. Can smell smoke indoors half a mile away. Flakes of white ash falling in the street like a hint of snow.
A view through trees of wildfire on Salisbury Crags, Edinburgh. Murky green foliage forms a frame around a hillside aglow with orange light. Plumes of flame rise from the gorse.

Just back from Edinburgh's big annual book sale. Picked up a Belgian timeline of early ecclesiastical writers from the estate of a bishop. And a Jack Reacher.
Interior view of Synopsis Scriptorum Ecclesiae Antiquae, published 1953. It contains a fold-out timeline of writers from 60 AD to 460 AD, labelled in Latin. The rows record Roman emperors, notable events, popes, and geographic regions. Between 360 AD and 410 AD a startling amount of detail is included. The Jack Reacher book, Never Go Back, is not pictured.

Possibly unwise life choices, item 2746:
An email acknowledgement. It shows a five-pointed star and the text "You're attending Canyon of Blood Listening Party".

Terrific weekend at @conpulsion.bsky.social meeting hordes of creative, positive people. Here's our unwatchable art house movie from the Kaleidoscope game. Find it on all good file sharing services under the filename 'SlugsWig.mov'.
A grid of coloured index cards displays our collective recall of an unwatchable foreign art house movie, constructed during the game 'Kaleidoscope' by Jackson Tegu. An unreliable friend described it as "A surrealistic, Tarantinoesque film visually obsessed with slugs." The characters are Tiny, an immense retired hitman struggling with his mental health; Cleopatra, a sinister teenager who carries a scythe and is followed by ravens; Sharon, a stressed single mother who used to work in human resources but who now tries to make it as an assassin; and the mysterious Barbour-clad Gardener, who smokes a pipe and seems both central and peripheral to the confusing narrative. The film sets philosophical monologue over images of mental breakdown, and the rare glimpses we get of domesticity are often interrupted by bursts of shocking violence. Is the opening scene of gunmen loading live slugs into pistols meant to be taken literally? Or is it simply a metaphor which fuels later reflections on bureaucracy and guilt?

A card from the Pokemon trading card game discarded on an urban pavement. It features a cunning-looking blue and black monkey hanging from a tree. The monkey wears a pink headset which seems to be emitting purple energy. The monkey has a special ability called "Adrena-Brain". Flavour text explains that the monkey "uses psychokinesis to induce intense dizziness".

Also ... look who I just found in an unrelated old boardgame:
A forty-year-old cardboard standup counter for the Golden Heroes RPG. It features a gold man looking away from us, arms upraised, wearing a pink cape and boots. The tag reads, "Eldritch".

Uh...
A ouija board displayed in a charity shop window. It features the usual alphabet, numbers and yes/no/goodbye keywords. However its styling is unusual. The font is cheerful and multi-coloured, the background is a rainbow, and the corners feature a happy sun and moon. The overall impression is of a toy intended for very young children.
