How do you ID the confusing array of small #blue #butterflies from the French Alps? The secret lies in their white fringe: L-R checkerboard for the Chalkhill, small black indents for the Common, a browner margin for the Damon and larger black veins for the Adonis. Easy!

A new find-the-tiny-silver-owl photo for you. It’s also worth zooming in for the silver cast I’ve made of a tiny feather, acorn, oak leaf & larch cone, a miniscule piece of coral, a pyritised ammonite & to see the design on the Victorian brooch I’m going to convert into a pendant…
A photo I’ve made of nature finds, tiny antique & found objects, hidden among which is a very tiny silver owl charm

I’ve not been posting as my father died end of January after several illnesses. Grief is hard. Full stop. Was still grieving my sister’s passing. Never did Fall cleanup last year. Trying to find bits of beauty in the garden amongst so much yucky cleanup still to do. Grief is hard.
Scabiosa Butterfly Blue flowers, which are more of a periwinkle color. Pincushion centers with frilly outer petals, thus the Pincushion Flower common name. Lots of Scabiosa’s lower growing greenery is also visible.

At this time of year, there was such a big pressure to be sociable. Honestly, Robin liked being alone sometimes. He wasn’t being rude, he didn’t want coaxing out, and there was no need to worry about him. He really just fancied a bit of ‘me time’ amongst the hustle and bustle.

The buff-tip moth (Phalera bucephala) has mastered a very particular kind of camouflage. When they close their wings up, they resemble a broken twig. Native to large parts of Europe, there's regional pattern variation that reflects the local tree species. This one best resembles birch twigs?

🌱 Café au lait with background singers 🎶 #Gardening #GardenSky #Dahlias #SundayYellow #DailyDahlias
This year I’ve lined our vegetable patch with zinnias and dahlias. What a season we’ve enjoyed seeing them together while working in the garden and how they’ve brought in even more pollinators. I’ll try this again next season. 🐝

Here we have a large cafe au lait dahlia surrounded with a cluster of bright yellow large zinnia blossoms. The dahlia is a large dinner plate size with many white petals. At its center is a soft rosy tan shade of petals. The zinnias around the dahlia are a bright yellow contrast to the dahlia’s softness. It’s all in the framing 😍💛💐
