There’s incentives changing to enable biodiversity increase- on Crofter land in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland we are pretty much have areas and sheep grazing is reducing overall but many crofts are still smoothish green pasture rather than the very tough grazing I’m encouraging on ours!

We are degrowth in mindset, so it’s easy to live on less. A house will be built, eco friendly, carbon sequestering and with corridors of nature bridging it all. Maintaining a flock around 80 sheep, a few goats and small poultry give us enough for 2/3rds of the year. Remote working does the rest.

Crofting as a thing was never designed to make a full living from(landlords endured that). Crofting our 18 acres + our common grazing share of around 40 acres is a stewardship, we aim to have it break even, supply us and our community with some food and to nurture the land back to biodiversity.

Largely I’d tend to agree but we have used our Hebrideans to knock back the dead Heather and they’re so light on the land - this is the result after 4 years. not had our bogs looking so good in decades

This is one of the most quietly revolutionary things any city can do to improve kids' lives & outcomes. If you genuinely care about kids having access to education or safe after school spaces & activities, then fund your libraries, staff your libraries, & make every public school ID a library card.

Going after Parkrun – a non-competitive event which has no changing rooms – perfectly illustrates that it's never been about fairness in sport, women's safety or anything else. It's about bullying and demonising trans people, hounding them out of public life in every space possible. It's disgusting.

A black and white photograph of Fred Hampton speaking into a microphone during a public event. Overlaid text reads: “Nothing is more important than stopping fascism, because fascism is gonna stop us all.” His name, Fred Hampton, appears beneath the quote.

Fine-particulate and ozone air pollution from fossil fuels causes 4-6 million avoidable deaths per year: 7-10% of all deaths worldwide. At an ~$11 million statistical value of life, this is a 44-66 trillion $/yr (38-56% of ~117 T$/yr global GDP) cost that appears nowhere in fossil fuel economics.
Heat map of annual excess deaths per 100k people per year from illnesses rellated to fine particulates and ozone. The map is darkest (worst impacts) in Asia, North and Central Africa, and South and Central America.Heat map of annual excess deaths per 100k people per year from illnesses rellated to fine particulates and ozone with the effects of fine particulates and ozone from fossil fuels removed. The map is much lighter almost everywhere, with the remaining dark regions centered in desert areas with lots of non-human-caused fine particulates in the air.
