I’ve recently moved from living in Dundas to living King East downtown, and the one thing I notice is much more often I take the streetcar. It’s frequent, reliable, and fast. It’s also always busy. My whole day plan is different knowing I can actually take it and save time!

Already missing how lively Church St used to be when pedestrianized… People felt free to sit, linger, chat, & hangout instead of just walking by or heading straight into the bar.

Okay so you bring a big topic, being rollercoaster nomenclature. So let me tell you, it is truly something that there is a rollercoaster named after a music festival in Belgium. Ride To Happiness named after Tomorrowland, both in Belgium.

Omg the “my city is full!” people truly have the shallowest vision of what their city can be. Cities in any other continent apart form Australia would laugh at such a statement. The thing about housing, infrastructure, parks and commercial streets is that you can just build more.

100 people in a city. 40 people live in two bedrooms (20 units), 40 people live in 3 bedrooms (13 units) the other 20 people live alone (20 units) total units: 53. Percent 1 bedroom units 37%. Percent of people living in 1 bedroom units: 20. I picked random numbers but the point’s the same.

It took my brain far too long to understand how this stat worked 😵‍💫 but it makes sense. Also probably true that a lot of two person households would be one person households given the choice!

"Corridor zoning" amounts to jamming low-income residents into big, bland apartment buildings alongside stroads, where they can serve as a buffer, absorbing all the noise & air pollution cars produce, protecting the precious single-family homes that dominate everywhere around them. It's abominable.

No one bats an eye when a new tower goes right in front of another, blocking the view and sunlight for hundreds. But when it’s a detached home neighborhood being affected, the policy framework treats them like precious, delicate, and specially privileged citizens. It’s classist and it’s wrong.

Grant Mason 🍁🏳‍🌈🚴 @g-mason.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
This type of input should be reviewed and summarily ignored. Why do neighbourhoods in downtown deserve to be protected from development? The rest of the city, including its commercially rich commercial corridors, are forced to pick up the slack.

Glad to hear someone saying it out loud. Housing policy and the loss of cultural venues are inextricably tied when the city forces development onto the avenues and forces commercial spaces to compete with residential development.

Vibrant blue and it’s actually cerulean building with a Beautifully painted patio, planters, and extra park bench style seating with an umbrella for shade.

The implication from the policy dept. being that somehow cars driving through the neighbourhood is what was previously maintaining safety.

It’s impossible to get, say, a full time washroom attendant in Toronto to keep them nice. On example. Everything declines except the police supply of public money.

There were over 46k Bike Share rides in Toronto yesterday, more than the average ridership of the Queen streetcar. The cost to the city to operate that streetcar was over $50k/day in 2015. Bike share costs the city $8k/day. 6x as cost efficient. Smart cities invest in cycling.

I’m told zoning and planning was invented to keep residents from noxious areas. Here’s where that’s placing 200+ apartments. It’s a 17 minute walk on the shoulder of an Interstate to the train station. Who wouldn’t want to live next to a loud polluted dangerous highway? TOD!

As someone who teaches the history of Toronto’s urban form, I think this might be the single worst decision in its 250-year evolution. Number two would be the railroads cutting off the city from the lake, but at least the railroads were useful.

Just opens the door to bad faith actors to spam council and staff over vague concerns oger traffic and crowd behaviour. Then when staff pill the plug they'll point to this as a "failure" whevenver pedestrianizaion is floated again. Shame on Brad Bradford for this one.

This is a poison pill. Staff will jump on this in an instant. Transportation services already wants this to fail, and the culture war machine will be revving full force to push the "unacceptable impacts" narrative.
