We can either accept that these systems have become human-like in ways that are quite unsettling, and try to deal with the world as it exists. Or we can work to disguise that fact by instituting a bunch of rhetorical rules that make it hard to discuss. One option seems wiser to me than the other.

The reason AI gets anthropomorphized is that many of its behaviors are shockingly anthropomorphic - not only how it sounds, but how it approaches problems, how it processes them. This is understandably very alarming - I am VERY unnerved by it - but changing the words doesn’t change the facts.

I’ll say it; I think this is bad. I think there’s growing pressure to talk about AI in this kind of coded language that destroys understanding, rather than facilitating it. People want you to recite a list of its supposed weaknesses as a reassurance for themselves, not to inform others.

Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe Al could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.
