On this day in 1982, Glenn Gould died in Toronto. Born in 1932 in Toronto, he was one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. He won three Grammys, three Junos and is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. His music is also on the Voyager Golden Record. 📸 Fred Plaut

here at the #Parkdale—High Park "meet the candidates" meeting, in a big church on Roncy. I am one of the youngest people here. I perhaps unwisely sat in the front row. I expect to suffer incredibly and am only attending for the slim chance the organizers make the fatal mistake of letting me ask […]

The other way to put it is that injuries remain flat with new bike infrastructure even as thousands and thousands of new cyclists start riding bikes.

The developer walked away after getting an approval.

It doesn't matter what the land use permissions are if the developer isn't able (or interested) to actually develop the property. Since the original proposal was submitted other developments in the area have been approved and constructed. It's not as simple as the city preventing development.

The city is not the developer's planning consultant. If the developer needs an exception, it's up to them to ask for it and to justify it. If they need adjacent properties to make it work, it's up to them to acquire those properties.

The province has prohibited Toronto from imposing tolls/congestion pricing. It's completely out of their authority.

Spacing got its hands on the RFP for the province's attack on Toronto's bike lanes. My main thought is that nobody in the Premier's Office has considered even the narrow, political downside risk for them here. spacing.ca/toronto/2026...

If I’m reading this correctly, Toronto mayoral candidate Brad Bradford’s campaign is asking volunteers to give them full access to their contact lists on their *personal* cell phones? www.nationalobserver.com/2026/09/28/i...
'You don't need to freak out about this'
Introducing Bradford's supporters to the app on the Zoom call, Punia instructed them to give the app permission to access all of their contacts.

"Do not give it partial contact ability, give it full. And what I want to say to you guys here is, you don't need to freak out about this," said Punia. He reassured them that only contacts they marked as known or potential Bradford supporters would be given to the campaign.

One attendee hesitated as she had over 2,400 contacts on her phone. She was instructed to give the app access to all of them and mark them one by one according to their level of support for Bradford.

Don’t forget about your local council race. Mayoral politics get all the (limited) oxygen but a councillor can affect your neighbourhood even more. Do they want to solve city wide problems but opt their ward out of the solutions? We’ve got a few of those. My @thestar.com column this week.

In an election year Toronto’s differences are smoothed out and can be overlooked by mayoral candidates who need to deliver uncomplicated ideas, to the whole city, as quickly as possible.
