I think the catastrophes to come will be the downfall of tech... my assumption in the story was that by 2050 we would have figured out how to actually use tech in a way that was ethical, both in source and usage, and that would have been based on a whole bunch of shitty tech before that showing how NOT to do it.

Might have been too optimistic of an assumption, but they're speedrunning destruction now, so maybe not.

Having friends in tech, and seeing the way that AI optimists and business people relate to the tech, I agree with the assessment. They're speedrunning self-destruction now, and it's mostly a matter of how long it takes to get there and what they bring down with them.
