Fortune has some people’s luck on direct deposit. They get a steady amount on a regular basis. But the deposit form for my luck keeps getting lost until Fortune is cleaning out her trash and finds it and is like ohhh shoot this is three months overdue let’s just dole it all out at once

I’m seeing pasta discourse on here. I must contribute. For many Italian Americans, “macaroni” means any type of dried durum pasta, not just the elbow-shaped little tubes. This was a generational thing in my family. My grandpa called all pasta shapes macaroni, just like he called sauce “gravy”

We’re talking about Mercier’s Memoirs of the Year 2440 in my Utopia lit class, so I asked my students to imagine the US in 2440. Their ideas: no AI, walkable cities, access to affordable food and healthcare, sustainable energy…and we haven’t even gotten to our Solarpunk unit yet

Underappreciated: US farmland *already substantially produces energy, not food*, and does so very inefficiently. Corn ethanol (~40% of all US corn) requires about 100 times more land per vehicle-mile driven than solar photovoltaics -> electric vehicles. Shifting corn to solar *would free up land*.
