Weekly Squardle was unfairly hard this week! Who do I complain to? I managed to get lucky and get the third column on my third guess, so I went try-hard mode to try to get my 4th weekly game ever with 9 remaining. Then NOTHING worked out. 5 remaining isn't bad, but after that start it *felt* bad!

A solved board for Weekly Squardle #206 with 5 guesses remaining. The board is in spoiler mode so we don't see the solved letters and we only see the colors of the hints, not their letters.

Squardle is a Wordle-like game where instead of solving a single word you solve a grid of words. This means that in addition to green (correctly placed letter), yellow (in row), and black (not in solution) you can also get hints that are red (in column), orange (in both row and column), and while (not in row or column, but elsewhere on the board).

The board in this image didn't get any orange hints.

Weekly Squardle #147 was brutal for me! I think I spent over an hour on it. Mainly because I refused guess words that didn't fit my clues. Pretty much every time I made notes for a possible guess it resulted in some other part of the board having letter combinations I couldn't think of a word for.

I couldn't sleep tonight despite being exhausted. So at 5:30 I got up and tried to Photoshop some art for a puzzle game I'm working on instead. Probably a better choice than trying to code, but I'm still not very happy with the result. Back in bed again now, hoping to get a few hours of sleep.

The Squardle version that's currently being Beta tested by my lovely Patreon supporters just got an update. They're testing an update that will add "Squardle Obscure" as a game mode. I just added "Squardle Obscure 25" to it. Here's the new part of the"Other game modes" page for the Beta version:

A page with options for configuring and starting Squardle Obscure. It has options for "Board type" (21, 24, or 25 squares), "Max common words" with a dropdown showing the default value of 2, on/off toggles for including "Brutally obscure words" and "Words ending in S" (for regular plurals and verbs in third-person singular present tense).

Here's a project I started a few years ago: A sequential discovery online puzzlebox. It's NOT playable on mobile as it requires right-clicking. But if you're on a computer and have some time to kill it is tested to work in most browsers. fubargames.se/gears/ It's free and the page is ad-free.

Here's a card game I'm making called "Mad Science". While it's not published as a physical game, the prototype is fully playable on Tabletop Simulator. Most of the card art is (obviously) placeholder stuff. You can check it out here: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/...

An example tableau of cards a player could have in play. This player is trying to take over the world using Eight-Dimensional Paranoid Androids, an Alien Time Machine of Doom, Violent Hench-droids, and Traitorous Sharks with Laser Beams.

These plots are made up of cards for minions and doomsday devices that have upgrade and downgrade cards played to the left and right of them. Up-/downgrades all have "..." either first or last in their names so they are played as prefixes or suffixes to the card they're modifying.

The board and card game Mad Science as it looks in Tabletop Simulator. In addition to a board, decks of cards, a D12, and a few token there's also a rule book.

The board has a "World Stupidity Index" that 8 squares marked, in order: Sheeplike tendencies > Elevated outbreaks of stupidity > Bright chimpanzee > Average reality show contestant > Typical home economics teacher > Nigeria scam victims > Cataclysmic idiocy. The board also has spaces for various steps in the turn order, including 4 different phases with movable markers denoting what type of cards can be played in which phase.

I've had designing games by my main hobby for over two decades now. One perk of having your hobby be to make something is that there will be things that exist because of you. And over the years those things will *keep* existing. As a mainly hobbyist designer I can and will iterate on old projects.
