Using this in my GCSE teaching. We need to diversify the curriculum and open up these pathways of thought.

Hairy dieters chicken cesar salad is a massive hit in our house. Jamie olivers salmon wraps are another. Both super quick. They are my go to ones when late home and still want real food.

Unfortunately I'm quite cynical here. I don't see a big enough difference between one word judgements and four word judgements to be swayed that this is meaningful change. ... it may be a start, but I am not currently convinced.

No problem. Our group has only been running a year, but starting to take shape. Good luck with yours! If you are part of a MAT it might be worth reaching out. I found this extremely helpful for resources and also support, (especially as a cis straight guy running a pride group).

We are also raising money towards the rainbow flag award and the profile of the group by putting on events. We had an in school cinema twice last yr. Ran by the group - all students could miss a morning lesson for a donation. Watched the Alan Turing film - imitation game, and 'next goal wins'

We have a mix. Safe space with some chill/ice breaking. Also some our students want a more activist approach so have that too. Had an anti- homophobia statement written by the students and passed through governors. Some wrote an assembly during lgbt+ history month and delivered to peers.

Ha! We did a dig at our school this year. We got so much out of it despite finding practically nothing. We are going to repeat it again this year.

Boy-girl seating plans are sexist. They also perpetuate misogynistic attitudes and damage both boys and girls. Think about what you are saying when you introduce this splitting on gender lines. #Edusky

Yep! That's what I thought! Also with the amount of support from colleagues (and the ocr b shared drive!) It is rare I can't at least get something quality ready quickly now in a pinch.

#historyteacher & MWB Does anyone have tips for using mini whiteboards (MWB) in the History classroom from those who use/have used them and have come across all the good and the bad with them. I have plenty of ideas; concrete examples please!

📌 I would like to know the same, or more general advice. A lot of teachers in our school are just starting to use them.

I just find that this place encourages engagement that much more. I've had so many actual conversations. Ones that feel authentic rather than popularity chasing and I've only been here a few weeks. I was a bit of a lurker on twitter because of the responses. Far less so here.

1. Make friends with people who are teachers and understand the issues. 2. Make friends with people who are not teachers so you can have a complete get away from work talk. 3. Don't talk to 2 about work. 4. Remember that nothing is more important than your health(inc mental) 5. More so with family

Oh completely agree. I thinknim talking at cross purposes though. I'm not really thinking about that as much as how we use yr 11 gcse data etc.How to think about trends over time. How to analyse it. Avoid over use too, and realise what outliers might effect it. How to use question data too maybe.

I wonder if it would be useful to address this more in npqs. I am currently on one - which focuses well on the pedagogy side, but little in the way of data thinking and management so far... perhaps it's to come but I don't see it in the agenda.

I feel competent, but only because of transferable skills from previous careers. Equally there are data tasks on almost every middle leader or even tlr interviews. I wonder whether we are equipping teachers to make the leap to management adequately.

Gareth Davis @fungibane.bsky.social · 30/08/2024
I wonder how much data training people have had when they enter into mid-leader roles. I've had very little in my career, maybe using the software - but, crucially- not the thinking behind the data. Or how to use the data to make judgements and analyse whether they are valid.

Agreed, but as ever - there is a place for 'gobbitising' but explaining this is a problem to the students - court records for example. 'What do these court cases show us about early modern crime'. 'Why do you thinkni have selected these parts of the records, what is the problem with this? Etc.

Our results seem to indicate that our students can write better, but lack the knowledge to articulate themselves confidently. This will be the cornerstone of my preparation this year.
