Not all painters are artists, and not all artists paint. Some artists paint, and some painters make art. People who do both, likely relate the two, and might miss that others do it differently. Do, must all QEs first be Testers? What if I asked, must all QEs, first be Devs?

The words were flowing, and boy, they are not pretty! I am pissed off, and when I am pissed off, I curse a lot. I found a post from 2021, and I compare my words from 4 years ago with how I feel about it today. It being: the focus of the testing community on "quality" #blog #tech #IT

Does 2025 Maaike agree with what 2021 Maaike wrote? I found the following in my Apple Notes just now. Read it, and then I'll tell you whether I still agree with my thoughts from 4 years prior. Spoiler...

When you realise you've pushed your .env file to GitHub... 😬 Testing isn’t just finding bugs; sometimes it’s about preventing and recovering from these moments. #DevFails #TestingLife #LessonsLearned (thanks James Wadley for another meme on MoT slack)

A meme featuring a scene from 'The Office' with Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell) making a pained, cringing expression. The text above reads: 'when you accidentally commit and push .env file to github.

100% coverage (code or test) does not mean you have full coverage. Even with mutation testing you can still have test cases that aren't covered.

Why does your company want users? What are you offering them, and why should they want your product? What does success look like? Simple questions, not easy to answer. Make sure your team and your organisation is thinking about the fundamentals. Otherwise, you can get lost in the details.

With some parts I had laying around, plus some reasonable deals for new parts, I just built a small gaming PC based on the Ryzen 5600gt, built in graphics only. Plays Minecraft and Roblox just great at 1080p, plenty enough for my kids to enjoy. Yes, there are newer platforms, but not this cheap!

For whoever needs to hear it, you're already more technical then you think, being technical is not jus writing code, and testing is a highly technical skill. #SoftwareTesting #YouAreTechnical

You're more technical thank you think

Last night @fullsnacktester.bsky.social spoke at my local meetup, MoT Coventry, on "Learning to love technical interview questions". I made a sketch note of his talk, and that is the first time he has had one done. A well done talk from Ben, which he hadn't been able to rehearse 🥳

A sketch note of Ben's talk. It has 17 sections, along with simplistic pictures every so often, including a unicorn, people talking, trees, and a house.

A photo of Ben, holding a copy of a sketch note, as he smiles. Ben has a thick ginger beard, a striped jumper of light blue, white, and black, as well as suspenders over them.

A photo of Ben behind a speakers podium. To his left is a screen, with the title of his talk, "Learning to love technical interview exercises".
