Just finished a wonderful SFF novella by @ftacchi.bsky.social, Let the Mountains Be My Grave, rec'd by @jfmclaughlin92.bsky.social. Thanks to both of you for the entrancing, inspiring read. Fascism isn't inevitable as long as there are people brave enough to fight it.
Paperback cover of Let the Mountains Be My Grave, by Francesca Tacchi. It features an illustration of the black-haired snake goddess central to the story. She is wearing a vaguely Roman-style dress, and is accompanied by white snakes. She has a tattoo of a red flower with multiple leaves descending on a long stem.

Great news! UNESCO adds Minoan Palace sites in Crete, Greece, to World Heritage list! Knossos, Phaistos, Malia, Zakros, Zominthos and Kydonia, are six archaeological sites dating 1900 to 1100 BC, representing the Minoan civilization, a major prehistoric Mediterranean culture 🏺 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo collage shows four Minoan artefacts on display at Heraklion Archaeological Museum, Crete.

Top left: a rhyton (ritual vessel for pouring liquid offerings) carved from black steatite in the shape of a bull's head. Museum info: ‘only the left side of the head is original. The horns, which were not found, would have been made of gilded wood. The head and neck are rendered very naturalistically, while details such as the hair are shown in relief or rendered with incisions. The eyes are inlaid with rock crystal and jasper, while the muzzle is highlighted with inlaid white shell. The crystal preserved in the right eye has a concave back which magnifies the pupil, giving the animal a lively expressiveness’. From the Little Palace at Knossos. Neopalatial period, 1600-1500 BC.

Top R: a rhyton carved from off-white limestone in the shape of a lioness’s head. It originally had coloured inlays to emphasise the eyes and muzzle, which are now lost. From Knossos Palace, 1650-1500 BC.

Bottom L: Wine jar (pithamphoreas) with many handles, decorated in the marine style with octopuses, tritons, rocks and coral. From Knossos Palace, late Neopalatial period.

Bottom R: Famous Minoan gold bee pendant which consists of two bees facing each other in the process of depositing a drop of honey in their honeycomb. They hold a round, granulated honeycomb between their legs and a round gold ‘drop’ of honey in their mouths. On their heads is a spherical filigree cage enclosing a solid gold sphere. Three cut-out circular gold discs decorated with filigree and granulation hang from their wings and sting. Excavated from the Chrysolakkos necropolis, Malia, Crete, dated 1800 BC.

This situation is beyond appalling. US- and Israel-backed aid org makes distributing aid into a death trap for Gazans, and IDF soldiers have admitted to intentionally shoot civilians. Donations can help alleviate the suffering. If you can spare a little, you may save someone from getting shot.

Since it seems there'd be no problem.........here they are!! 🥹♥️ I took these one month after the surgery, and it's honestly incredible how well the wounds are healing! I can't stop peaking at them from time to time, I'm so incredibly happy!!
front picture of a white person showing their top surgery scars. The scars are already very thin and clean, a little more pinkish than the surrounding skin. The person is standing in front of a white door and has a sacred heart tattooed on their chestThe same person showing the scars from a slightly different angle, as they are now laying on their bed amidst green pillows

Just realized that since I deleted all my old posts off IG that I don't have this posted on any of my socials so let's fix that
An Evangelion fanart illustration of Eva Unit 01's head forming as the AT field out of the core. Within the core is Adam staring out. The Eva head is riddled with holes that show the repeating AT Field Pattern, and from the chasms myriad eyes and red veins are clustered. The red veins reach out of the head itself to form the leaf veins of a giant red fig leaf, with the Eva head at it's center. The title, 'And The Eyes Of Them Both' comes from the verse: "And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together, and made for themselves aprons." Genesis 3:7

The earliest known images of Jesus originate from a Christian building at Dura-Europos in Syria, the world’s earliest known house church, dated ca. AD 232. The frescoes from the baptistery depict Jesus healing the paralytic and Jesus walking on water. #Easter Yale University Art Gallery, USA.
In a scene from the baptistery that depicts Christ’s miraculous works, Christ heals a bedridden man. The man appears twice: in the foreground, he is shown paralyzed, and on the left, he joyfully carries his bed away. The scene signified to viewers the healing quality of baptism in the nearby font, where initiates received forgiveness for sins and began new lives as Christians.
https://artgallery.yale.edu/collections/objects/34498The Christian building at Dura-Europos is the world’s earliest known house-church. The most elaborate and ritually significant room in the building was the baptistery, where Christians welcomed members into their community through the sacrament of baptism. In this fragment of a wall painting from the baptistery, Christ encourages his apostle Peter to walk over a stormy sea as a ship carrying other apostles sails in the background. The image told viewers that, just as Christ saved Peter from drowning in the waters of Galilee, he would save baptized Christian souls through his death and resurrection.

Happy Easter from the "easter devils" in Prizzi, Sicily 😈 During this peculiar easter tradition, two people dressed ad devils (in red) and one dressed as Death (in yellow) dance around town making pranks and causing mischief...until statues of Jesus and Mary are paraded in the streets 1/?
Two people wearing bright red ans grotesque horned masks pause with a person dressed in yellow wearing a crude skull-like mask and holding an arrow. Behind them is the outline of a small town with stone housesThe same three people as in the first picture make grotesque dances in the middle of an alley

This large #Etruscan terracotta figure of Juno Curitis was probably a cult statue, on display within the temple of the goddess' sanctuary at Celle (finished on all sides). Presented as a patrician matron, with a gorgeously patterned peplum, and bejeweled diadem. 🏺 #ancientbluesky ca. 380 BCE. 📸 me
Juno is represented as a sumptuously dressed and bejeweled matron. This appearance differs from the aspect of warrior, which characterizes the deity worshipped in the sanctuary of Celle, patron of the Faliscan population.

The wife of Zeus was decorated with jewels and a royal diadem, which was made separately and then placed over her head. The rich dress with peplum shows the particular patterns of fabric and it is softly folded over the shoulder. This statue shares with a complex of reliefs a clear consistency of style and technique. Nevertheless, when compared to the other statues, the rear surface is finished in all its parts. The short curls on the hair are gathered together at the base of the neck. The ribbon necklace is knotted and carefully painted and the peplum, which wraps the shoulder, appears to have been molded. These details are usually unnecessary on a sculpture meant to be seen only from the front, as on the statues placed on a pediment.

Even its size, a little larger than the other statues on the pediment, does not permit to be paired with Zeus, (who is also crowned), or associated with the "triad" along with Minerva. It is intriguing to see in this statue, the simulacrum of the goddess, which was probably placed inside the cella of the temple.

Etruscan, from the Sanctuary of Juno Curitis at Celle, ca. 380 BCE.
