Old woman trying to figure out what to do for the best. Bit shocked by the open gerontophobia (hatred of old people) on Bluesky.

“He was rightly classified as a man. But that classification threw us off from considering his actual medical needs.” No “he” wasn’t rightly classified ffs. “He” was pregnant, only women can get pregnant. And the baby paid the ultimate price. metro.co.uk/2019/05/20/p...

Or 2.5%. However high prices go. Big problem is the massive inequality among pensioners. Men still have double the pension wealth of women on average. Not to mention the private yacht class.

Is that too much?

The state pension if you get the full whack (about half of us) is currently £12,548 a year. One in eight pensioners and 18% of single pensioners have no income other than their pension. That's 1.1 million people, the majority women who also average get less state and much less private pension.

It's still a generalisation, and feeds stereotypes. Would you talk about "a certain kind" of young person, or Black person, or "a certain kind of German"?

60-69s are the age group most supportive of Reform closely followed by over 70s, but it's still only one in three voters (compared to more than one in 5 40-49s) so two thirds of old people have not and would not vote Reform.

Please stop the negative generalising about old people George. Gerontophobia is off the scale on Bluesky - we're either stingy bastards or helpless old dears when we're arrested on climate protests.

Transgender sports person here. Trans women - have more muscle mass - have larger lungs - have a bigger heart - have more fast twitch muscle fibres - have no periods - have a narrower pelvis resulting in being 10% faster in cycling and running and having fewer leg injuries. There is no debate.

Very angry people on BS convinced JK Rowling is using her wealth and influence to destroy trans people. She’s not. She’s not anti-trans. She is defending women. That is all. Defending our right to single sex provisions. Women’s rights. Rights that can not be indentified into. Women exist too.

Many of the poorest old (who are mostly women) are disabled or chronically sick. (if your mum has only just started paying tax she has presumably been living on less than £12,570 - in the lap of luxury).

I know, but disagree that people born in the 40s and 50s were generally privileged, apart from the minority who got a free university education (like me on a full grant). It was about class, and it still is. There are loads of old people in private rented homes living on about £12k or less.

Please tell me how I voted and how you think I should have voted. The very definition of prejudice is that you prejudge people based on your assumptions about eg the ethnic group, gender or indeed generation they belong to. It seems to amuse you to stoke hostility towards old people, which is sad.

Disparaging a whole population on the basis of one example is usually considered a bit methodologically unreliable isn't it? But the ageism on this platform is off the scale - I think people assume it's oldie-free so they slag us off with impunity.

Did you watch the clip? That old woman said it was positive and would cheer people up. The moany old pensioner trope is alive and well in the media, but it's ageist bollocks. Moaning is a national pastime for every age group.

Worth pointing out there's a big difference in UK law between criticism and defamation. Shouting "free speech" is not going to convince a court if you have made false statements that cause serious harm to the reputation of an individual, company or organisation.

They have to use friends’ or family members’ addresses for everything - bank accounts, HMRC, DVLA etc. Not exactly convenient, and probably illegal, but not much choice if you can’t afford a flat.

There are thousands of mostly young people living unofficially on boats in London because they can’t afford to rent or buy a home. Boat dwellers don’t have addresses, even with moorings on marinas like the one Polanski lived on. So they are disenfranchised, and have trouble registering with a GP etc

All drugs have side effects and contraindications. The fact that a drug has been approved (after lots of research trials no doubt) for endometriosis or prostate cancer or premature sexual maturity does not imply that it’s safe or worth the risks for gender distress or anything else.
