I want to portray this someday if I have the art skills. I’d do a series with each piece being a different character shattering the illusion of badassery.

I don’t want to shit on auto-generated subtitles too much because transcribing takes time and it’s better than nothing, BUT sometimes the robot does not know what to write and inserts misheard lyrics that are too comical for the tone of whatever I’m watching

It's probably just because I'm getting old, but I wish the world could slow down a little. Less information being thrown at you, less urgency and energy on news broadcasts, less expectation to get everything done Now. Dunno how to get there, it's just a wish. I've made some personal progress on it!

All of us canaries have to be dead before anyone starts earnestly trying to get out of the coal mine, I guess. Don’t worry, folks in the U.S. When the fascists are done with us they’ll come for you, and then you’ll feel like actually doing something because you’re personally affected.

Belatedly reading about how this all went down last time. The author is a gay man who was fortunately sent out of Germany before the Nazis could get him. He cites lots of sources that will be useful for further reading. Bring your notepad for this one. History has been repeating itself for a while.
Cover of “The Pink Triangle” by Richard Plant. It contains a black-and-white photo of prisoners in vertically-striped prison outfits. The photo is bordered by a triangle and the whole cover has a pink tint to it. From top to bottom it reads: “The Nazi War Against Homosexuals”; “The Pink Triangle”; then there is a quote, “‘A powerful and painful account’ —Martin Gilbert, author of ‘The Holocaust’”; at the bottom is the author’s name, “Richard Plant”.

Making the first friend, or the first friend group, is extremely difficult because humans have an unintentionally cruel social pattern of avoiding “desperate” people. But someone actively in the existential pain of being alone will of course act like they need the socialization— because they do.

As I stumble toward middle age I see more of my past mistakes. Such as: if I assume that people are inherently “good” (i.e. kind, unselfish) and that good will triumph on its own, I’ve ignored how people have potential for “evil” as well. And I’ve excused myself from trying to encourage the good. It

Said it before: if your neurodivergent friends/colleagues/family members are getting "worked up" about the "state of the world" right now - we are the canaries in the coal mine and there will come a point where you wished you'd taken our concerns seriously. It's not being "too sensitive".

Something from my archives: An interview with Jimi Hendrix from "Teenset Magazine", 1969...
"And they can have little neighborhood committees that sign petitions for problems and then send someone up to the government to try to get things done, and if it doesn't happen, try again; have patience. Do it about three or four times, and if it doesn't happen then get your Black Panthers and your little army groups, not to kill anybody, but to scare them. It's hard to say... I know it sounds like war but that's what's gonna have to happen, it has to be war if nobody is going to do it peacefully. Like quite naturally you say, make love not war and all these other things, but then you come back to reality and there are some evil folks around and they want you to be passive and weak and peaceful so that they can just overtake you like jelly on bread."
"It's good to be passive and all this, but there are these people on the other side, like I said before, who want you to do these things and you're gonna get screwed in the end, you and me, regardless. So you have to have something to back it up. Some people have to be scared into it."

that’s already being discussed as well. Openly, for everyone to hear. The fascists will continue to mockingly engage in peaceful debate while consolidating their power. They will come down a little harder each time on anyone who dares resist. That’s how fascism goes, and it’s coming round again.

that a white person isn’t going to leave their comfort zone to help a nonwhite person. They will instead sit in fear that their lifestyle will be compromised somehow, and if it isn’t they’ll breathe a sigh of relief. The next target is anyone who speaks against the govt. I’m not guessing here;
