"When I do generate content using #AI, I find that the requirement to check it for accuracy negates any time saved during the writing part." This has always been my experience with tools that are aimed to do the work on your behalf, including #CSS frameworks (when they were most popular).

Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge? It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

I don't get how people don't realize that a technology that replaces junior and entry level positions in a field destroys that field. There's no skipping steps. You have to be a junior before you can be a senior, and if you don't have senior people, you don't have a field.

Pretty fucking gutted to see a great app like Komoot about to go down the gutter... 😞 A great work culture and environment, a product I've enjoyed using throughout the years. I even wanted to apply there but missed on their design openings... Time to look around. www.dcrainmaker.com/2025/03/komo...

The most disappointing thing about Figma sites is that they fell into the same trap as almost every other website builder. They assumed (arrogantly) that HTML and CSS are over engineered and that they can make it much simpler. They are not alone. So many tools before them has done the same. 👇

Alright, we're actually doing this open working thing. We're going to work on projects, for real clients who are set up to make people's lives tangibly better. We can only do that if it works financially though because we've got mortgages etc. Your support will make this happen.

Some might say I'm being too harsh on Figma but I actually think I'm not being harsh *enough.* For better or worse, Figma is the industry-default design tool. When they select their priorities, it communicates to designers *what they should consider important* both as a role model and as a tool.

This is true, but the larger scam pattern (web3/metaverse/crypto/etc) is what many of us are trying to give voice to — folks have to recognize that letting those bad actors define "tech" is just like media letting bad actors frame every other "debate". It's losing before we even start.

Man, this is a pretty fucking gross move from Amazon, huh? Good on @bookshop.org for not mincing words, though:
Every April, we celebrate Independent Bookstore Day to remind us how vital indie bookstores are to our communities and society. It’s a day of joy and solidarity, and significant financial impact for these bookstores.

This year, Amazon is undercutting that with a “Book Sale” on the same day—a calculated move by a company that has already put half the bookstores in the country out of business, controls over 60% of the market and sells far more books than all indie bookstores combined. The people at Amazon responsible for the timing of their "Book Sale" should be ashamed, but they are shameless.

Taking a creative studio’s unique and creative visual storytelling style this way or any other way doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t feel like innovation of a {tool, software, thing}. There are plenty of papers, books, opinions, history facts on this being closer to theft. It unoriginal and uninspired.

Recognize that everything created by and for people is innately political and therefore has impacts both seen and unseen, good and bad. We can mitigate that risk with attention to accessibility, usability, sociology, and ethics. It's our duty (too often left to designers), not a side effect.

Slowly moving things away from Twitter, trying to find as much as possible of the people I follow there. Starting from 0 ain't bad at all. And I dig the lighter feel of the interface. Let's see where this goes.
