The author blocked me for this 🤦‍♂️. If you love the web, but hate AI, now must be a very confusing time. If we want more people to have their own website, AI is by far our best bet. I will still prefer a hand crafted site any day but that is not for everyone.

Stakeholders are treating designers as a bottleneck in the new workflows being created to speed up processes with AI.

Right now, we’re being treated as a step that slows the process down more than it helps, because they think AI delivers “good enough” design.

LLMs can solve math problems that humans have struggled with forever. like "Give me a random number between 1 and 10". Humans have never been able to agree on the answer. Every LLM knows that it is 7.

90s era WYSIWYG editors were not great, but that was primarily because of CSS. Tables was one of the best way to do layouts. CSS came out in 1996, it wasn't until the 2000s we started seeing proper cross browser support. We didn't get flexbox until 2009

The examples mention in this article are some of the least creative content ever put online, including everything uploaded to YouTube kids. I absolutely think you CAN use AI for creative work, but it says a lot that the observer could not find a single example of that happening.

It's not surprising that the increased "productivity" from AI doesn't lead to greater revenue for software companies. I would have been surprised if it did. It's a bit like believing that products sell better the more features they have. This is not what the importance looks like

One of the craziest thing about visual editors in ai tools is that after you are done editing, you still have to spend tokens applying those changes. You are literally paying token cost for work you are doing by hand.

The fact that this happened because of how words are translated to tokens is completely irrelevant. The example is completely valid, It showed people that while LLMs are being sold as super intelligent systems, they can failing the most basic tasks that even a small child could solve.
