@cortezmasto.senate.gov Are you really considering this deal that doesn’t guarantee aca subsidies? Please don’t. Rs have the upper hand because the subsidy expiration is already set, they’re going to say they’re protecting the deficit and refuse to approve. This is the only chance to get them back

Wow this is wild. James: "The Trump team didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us."

How many more MAGA-ites will go on TV to defend this? Note that even open neo-Nazis, such as avowed antisemite and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, said Bannon’s salute was “getting a little uncomfortable" and "a little excessive" even for them apnews.com/article/stev...

Steve Bannon is accused of doing a straight-arm Nazi salute at CPAC but says it was just 'a wave'
Steve Bannon has been accused of making a Nazi salute at a conservative gathering where President Donald Trump is slated to speak this weekend but says the gesture was merely “a wave.”

I wish I were making this up but Ohio Republicans have made their #1 priority this year making sure that university classrooms are a safe space for Holocaust denial - literally, they have just introduced this as Ohio Senate Bill #1
If a student denies the Holocaust, Cirino said that the professor can engage in a debate and explain the ponderance of evidence to the contrary.
"They shouldn't be shouted down - even though they're nuts and it's a ridiculous position to take in that," he said. "The environment we want to have is to educate, to enlighten other people to the truth.
Sometimes they don't see it, or they don't want to see it. That's fine but that's the environment we should have in higher ed."

Guys when Chris Rufo and Trump say "We're destroying DEI, we're salting the earth underneath it" and they're talking about regulations that reach back to 1965, they're not talking about corporate diversity trainings. They are talking about civil rights

We should be clear that the language in the anti “DEI” executive order and the subsequent letter sent to federal employees to turn in colleagues who try to “disguise” DEI under other names means hires and promotions of Black and other POC will be deemed suspicious. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

This isn't just an attack on scientific research. It's an attack on *scientists.* Central to Trump's "Revolution of Common Sense" is the idea that scientists impede progress in pursuit of political goals. This move -- Telegraphed in Project 2025 -- upends life for those who depend on NIH funding.

These emails, sent across agencies, compel all federal employees to snitch on any colleague whose work might have some vague DEIA inflection. Those who refuse to snitch will be disciplined. Seems designed to put all workers who aren’t white men under a cloud of suspicion. Truly vile stuff.

Will also add that PubMed - which indexes millions of medical articles, and makes citations and many full text articles available free of charge as a public good - is an NIH product. If it disappears, it’s not unrealistic to think that academic medicine will be massively slowed for years.
