True story: I dropped my daughter's name at a work-related social event and it worked to my benefit. Generations changing hands, as it should be. It helps that she's amazing.

Autumn/Fall is the best season. My favorite places to experience it: 1) New England; 2) Scotland. Don't sleep on Virginia (and Maryland on the opposite shore). Unfiltered sunrises. over the Potomac on successive mornings

The folks at Mount Vernon are very gracious hosts. I recorded a podcast in my office and, apparently, I could be heard down the corridor, despite closing my door. When I apologized to a colleague down the hall, they said, "You're very good at projecting and we're delighted to have you here."

Donald Trump says a new 30-ft statue of George Washington is necessary outside the National Museum of American History - because apparently the 555-foot obelisk 2 blocks away just isn't enough.

the specific insanity of “what if i started a perpetually-escalating trade war with Canada two months before control of the senate is determined by voters in Maine and Michigan” is under-discussed here, just wild how unmoored from public opinion concerns the Trump admin has gotten

Here’s my op-ed on Chief Justice John Roberts whitewashed history of President and Chief Justice William Howard Taft. Roberts adoration of Taft’s “restraint” conveniently omits Taft’s racism, refusal to condemn lynching, and embrace of Lost Causism. That’s no accident. share.inquirer.com/IcPlmx

Perhaps the most fun I ever had in the classroom was teaching a comparative US-Canadian history course with my pal @ccoates.bsky.social. We only got to teach it once. I read so much Canadian history that year. It was like grad school again (and loads of fun). I think about that, a lot, these days.

Someday Canada and the US will reach a trade agreement. It may not be until the current president is no longer with us. Until then, Canada should propose renaming Lake Ontario, Lake Obama.

I'm no political expert but if I wanted my party to keep control of the Senate I'm not sure I'd provoke a trade war with a country that shares land borders with four of the states I need to win (and Ohio is just over the lake).
