Don’t believe people who tell you ai can be liberatory or any other misappropriation of movement talk or justice frameworks. Find some people who are preparing to rebuild and cast your lot with them. Then read a bit more. Just keep your wits about you because they are trying to run game.

Sitting with the news cycle (again and again), reminded of McKittrick pointing to Wynter’s ideas about how “we become psychically attached to, and invest in, this already-normally-always system of knowledge that cannot comprehend black humanity.”

As both an academic and a writer, I am repelled by the "this looks like a long document. Would you like me to summarize it for you?" that seems to appear at the top of every pdf viewer now. NO. The *entire point* of good writing (either books or journal papers) is that every sentence has a purpose.

It is really this easy. Take any *cognitive capacity* X. For instance, X = reasoning, learning, communicating, summarizing, reading, writing, etc. If any one asks: Can an LLM do X? You can answer: “No, LLMs cannot do X, because X is a cognitive capacity and LLMs have none” LLMs are decoys.

Philosophers often bring up the "principle of charity": a willingness to assume good faith in an interlocutor and treat them accordingly. It's good to do in many circumstances. But it is worth formulating a principle of not being a fucking mark. If not during the rise of fascism, then when? 12/

All you have to do is find things that cue up the bigotry you want to promote, and make them salient - preferably, while avoiding the same for context that would complicate your intended narrative (in a distracted, low-participation political culture, the last bit comes practically for free). 8/

Plenty to reflect about re: the Arday affair, but I'm going to repeat this one thing. The playbook the right used here is effective even though it's not especially sophisticated, as it relies on the audience to do the dirty work. I've been calling it "Trojan horse propaganda", let's go with that. 1/

REMINDER: Body cameras do NOT stop or even influence law enforcement’s practice of abusing Black and brown bodies. Indeed, U.S. policing originated as armed patrols for hunting and killing or capturing enslaved Black people who’d escaped bondage. Racist abuse is part of American law enforcement. 🇺🇸
