My prediction: HBO Potter will get at least as far as Prisoner of Azkaban, so it can adapt the most popular book in the series. Once that happens the hype will really start to die off, and I wouldn't be surprised if it gets axed at some point after Goblet of Fire as production costs keep going up.

The problem's going to be longevity - I know it's been renewed already but it'll need to do unbelievably well to get to the last book. Plus with Warner Bros' impending merger, it'd be an easy target for incoming execs looking to prune expensive productions, esp if it can't sustain the hype after S1.

I think it will go well at first - it does have the most viewed trailer in HBO history after all, plus it's a big Christmas event premiere for an existing franchise. If it's a weekly series then it'll dominate the online discussion. Nothing else in December has quite the same family-friendly appeal.

For a show I won't watch, I can't stop thinking about the potential performance of the HBO Harry Potter series. Like they're trying to recapture the Pottermania of the 2000s via the most expensive show of all time, after years of JK going full TERF and the spinoff films failing. It's fascinating.
