Having a completely separated from traffic walk/bike trail across the Bay Bridge is so amazing. I went from couch to this view in 20 minutes as cars backed up for miles to get into the city for fleet week. Didn't help them that cars frequently stopped traffic trying to get pictures on their phones.

Reposted with alt text: evilleeye.com/news-comment... Just learned thanks to CM Priforce, that funding affordable housing actually means closing gaps for luxury developments for the Epstein class. Please make sure he doesn't get reelected.
And we need to stop falling for the affordable-housing bait-and-switch. If a developer wants to buy land and build housing under California’s streamlined housing laws, build it. But permission to build is not an entitlement to Emeryville taxpayers’ money.

Public investment in housing should buy a public product: permanent cost-of-living reductions, preservation, homeownership opportunities, eviction prevention and keeping current residents housed.

Taxpayer dollars should first help taxpayers remain in their homes, not close financing gaps for luxury development for the Epstein class.

Somehow never noticed this awesome bike box/queue jump at 53rd and Hollis. Let's you safely get in front of the cars so you aren't pinched by the curb extension. Obviously a protected intersection would be better, but this is a cool solution.

@nextdoorsv.bsky.social this resolution from the League of California Cities had some great content around it.

This building going up in San Jose is so funny. It's like if you stretched a standard 5 story apartment building up another 20 floors. As one commenter said, the final boss of massing breaks and facade articulation. sfyimby.com/2026/10/new-...

Extremely weird biking next to an empty Bay Bridge. Was completely silent. Seems to have been shut for police activity, they announced they were looking for shell casings from a recent shooting.

Had an ice skating party for my 29th birthday and asked my friends to try and make it to the Oakland Ice Center without driving. Of those that made it: 2 took AC Transit 2 walked from their apartments, 2 people shared an electric cargo bike 1 took BART My wife and I took Lyft Bikes

Very weird sharrows on MacArthur outside Mills College. Seem to direct you to stay in the road instead of the nice protected bikeway right next to it.

All I ask for is a single news source to be normal about TOD. All they focus on is loss of parking but not the hundreds of homes replacing it. I know it's just because it gets clicks but our standards should be a bit higher.

Extremely funny to have an adoring fan that calls me out by name on reddit for liking Emeryville too much. Anyone even slightly involved with Emeryville can probably guess who this is. www.reddit.com/r/Emeryville...

Walking around Oakland, measured against myself that this truck with no front plate is 5 foot up from road to front window. My head is barely above the hood, love sharing the road with something like this.

Got to explore the old 16th Street Station in Oakland today, one lady on our tour talked about how she visited through this station from the Netherlands in 1965. Very cool to be able to see this part of history

Wow the T Third's signal improvements in SF made a noticable difference from 23rd to the tunnel. Only 4 minutes 12 seconds spent idle including station stops and the slowest doors ever designed. 11mph moving speed still isn't exactly fast, but at least it's progress.

We made it to Vancouver via Amtrak Cascades from Seattle. It was a beautiful journey on funny looking trains that will be scrapped in the next few months for much nicer ones. Border crossing was completely painless, although Vancouver's station took 45 minutes for the train to navigate.

The transit network was also very impressive, tons of ferries of all sizes, polite busses, and the fully automated skytrain. I only wished skytrain had a bit more coverage, which is something it will be getting soon with two new extensions under construction.

The bike network of Vancouver was so safe, I was able to take my parents, brother, and wife biking through the city even though many of them haven't been on a bike in more than 10 years due to lack of safe infrastructure.

Finally made my own urbanist pilgrimage out to the amazing Sen̓áḵw development in Vancouver. Aside from the buildings themselves, I was extremely impressed with how well integrated it was in the city's bike network. Various road diets and new protected bike lanes were installed along the site.

Oddly the new map at the Huichun Park Bay Wheels station doesn't have the Greenway, South Bayfront Pedestrian Bridge, or even the park it is placed in. 🤔

I was recently in the small town of Kitakami, Japan where they have an entire mall called "American World", complete with American sized surface parking lot (although this one has a ferris wheel as a bonus).

Spotted in the Berkeley Ironworks bike lot, a regular Bay Wheels bike and an awesome tandem bike. Only in the bay would people take a tandem bike to the climbing gym, I love it here.

For everyone that thinks the Mayor of San Jose, Matt Mahan, would be a YIMBY governor, this is from his official mayor website bragging about opposing the elimination of single family zoning. www.sjmayormatt.com/meet-matt
On housing, Mayor Matt was the first councilmember to host a press conference opposing the proposal to eliminate single family residential zoning in San Jose

Moving to Emeryville in 2023 is clearly visible here. When shopping, restaurants, parks, and activities are closer; it meant way less time trying to get places. It's impossible to really compare on such a short timeline due to COVID, switching jobs, visiting family etc. but I found it interesting!

On a larger scale, I spent way more time in a car while living in Dublin than I do now. When I took transit, those journeys were also much longer distances. We sold a car shortly after moving to Emeryville, making me much more reliant on transit and walking/biking.
