Glossy Ibis on wet grassland that is used as a paddock so a fence post and electric fencing can be seen. It is about Little Egret sized and has a down curved bill. It is black ish from a distance.

Back to work this week, so fewer chances to walk or watch from the house. Current #FootIt total is 60 species. Pretty happy with that, six days in. Highlights have been White-tailed Eagle and Kingfisher. My seen within 25k of the house is at a respectable 88. With Common Scoter and WF Goose best.

A potter round produced a goody. Hawfinch(!) at Rhiwderin, initially flying around with a small flock of Chaffinch near the ‘swimming pond’ at c.ST263868 (adjacent to the Yellowthroat site), later sat up for high quality handheld phone-scoping shenanigans. #gwentbirding #lowcarbonbirding #footit

Out the front door, then almost 5 hrs investigating footpaths and habitat mainly on W side of Axminster. Pleasantly surprised at potential. Among 42 spp recorded were a few not particularly expected, like Green Sandpiper, Kingfisher, Stock Dove, Treecreeper, etc... It's a start. #FootIt #DevonBirds

Today's mainly a finish off stuff before (hopefully) birdy weekend, like catching up on uni reading. Had to enjoy the sun and have a wander for #FootIt and #PWC2026 though: Sandwich Tern and Med Gull new for the year off Lee on Solent 🙂 #LowCarbonBirding
Sandwich Tern flying west with Calshot in the background. The background is blurred but colourful beach huts are visible and a larger brick coloured building which is part of Calshot Activity Centre. Behind this is woodland and pylons. The sea is a little lumpy but no big waves. The Tern is in non breeding plumage. It has pale grey wings with darker primaries, white tail and head and a partial black cap and black bill with yellow tip

63 species at Titchfield Haven/Hill Head including 5 1/2 species of geese! 37+ White-fronted Geese on East Meadows for most of the day 🙂 #LowCarbonBirding #PWC2026
Geese on a meadow with some taller vegetation like rushes and tall straw coloured reedbed behind. Most of these geese are White-fronted: grey ish with black marks on breast, white behind pink bill. There is a Canada Goose with a black neck and head with a white patch. Its body is mostly brown. A few Egyptian Geese are present. They are mostly various sharers of brown with a rufus perch at the back and white eye masks, and look a bit odd.More geese on the meadow. The photo is centred on a Canada x Barnacle hybrid goose which is small like a Barnacle Goose with a blackish grey mantle and black neck, breast, and head. It has a white chin and extra white mark above the bill. It has a small black bill and grey underparts. White fronted geese in flight. Their underparts are visible. They have white under tail and belly and grey fronts with black marks. Orange legs, pink bills with white behind the bill. The wings are dark grey White fronted geese in flight above trees. They have grey ish wings and mantle and white bar on the tail
