Last day on Scilly. Took a boat out to Bishop’s Rock Lighthouse. Had amazing views of fin and minke whale, and large numbers of Cory’s shearwater, grey phalarope, and common dolphin. Now on the train back to Scotland.

Back to St Agnes today! Got a pasty from the Post office, and an ice cream from Troytown. Saw a common rosefinch and a lesser whitethroat.

Walk around Lower Moors first off, with several Cetti’s warblers and 2 reed warbler. And then over to Tresco for the day; found another yellow-browed warbler.

Scillies day 3. Stayed on St Mary’s; the highlights were the subalpine warbler, glossy ibis, 2 turtle dove, and a short-eared owl (not in a pear tree).

Scillies day 2. Got a boat over to St Agnes and Gugh; saw the upland sandpiper and red-backed shrike, plus a lesser emperor dragonfly. Then back on St Mary’s saw 9 cattle egret and a firecrest.

First day on Scilly today. Highlights from Scillonian crossing were 2 storm petrel, 3 sooty shearwater, and 1 Manx shearwater. Then the afternoon on St Mary’s gave short-toed lark, Lapland bunting, and great white egret.

On Saturday we got the bus to Oban on followed by the ferry to Craignure. We are now cycling around Mull. Today we visited Staffa to see Fingal’s cave and puffins, and then over to Iona were corncrake a a plenty were calling.

Cycled to Perthshire today. Had green woodpecker nr Bracklin Falls. At Carsebreck added linnet, shelduck, gadwall & great crested grebe to the yearlist; plus SLAVONIAN GREBE still on Lower Rhynd Rsvr. Also had golden eagle during ride. So that’s 100 on the self-powered yearlist. #cyclingbybike

Was out on the bike yesterday and in a cafe in Stirling when I got a call about a Slavonian grebe on the river in Stirling. After quickly finishing my roll I was soon watching the bird with Ross the finder. An unusual record for this far up the Forth! 90 to 2026 self-powered list #birdingbybike

Cycled up to Braes of Doune windfarm this morning. Struck gold with a SNOW BUNTING up there. Meadow pipit was also new for the year bringing self-powered yearlist to 89. #birdingbybike Nothing new for #footit so I have finished on 80.

6 hawfinch were found at Homehill, Dunblane this morning - the first record for the winter. I tried at lunchtime for an hour without success. I then walked back this afternoon, to find one bird sat up in a tree and ithers calling nearby. I’ll be hoping for them in the garden! 79 for #footit.

Away in Glasgow today so no #footit other than to the train station and back. I did take a quick walk into the park once back in Dunblane. The pond is still frozen but clearing, so the mallard are returning at least!
