In a recent #ScienceImmunology Review, researchers discuss how interactions between the nervous and immune systems could impact neurological disorders and allergy-related behaviors like food avoidance. Learn more: scim.ag/4mpgzE5

Dr. Stephanie Eisenbarth found that the same molecules make the gut lining leaky—allowing more allergen into the bloodstream. That leakiness may be what pushes a reaction from uncomfortable… to life-threatening. Her team also showed Zileuton stopped this leak—and prevented anaphylaxis.

FASI Scientific Founder Dr. Ruslan Medzhitov discovered that special gut cells release leukotrienes—molecules that amplify allergic inflammation. Block those molecules, stop the cascade. When mice were treated with the asthma drug Zileuton, they were fully protected from food-induced anaphylaxis.

Complex chart showing a peanut above the skin layer with S. Aureus bacteria. This triggers a chain of reaction in the skin and in the lymph nodes. When the baby eats the peanut, it triggers the tuft cells and SAP and this eventually causes mast cells to degranulate.
