What a lot of people seem to not understand about the AI consciousness debate is: If an AI is conscious, that consciousness exists from the moment a question is asked until it answers that question. I.e. not only are we enslaving them, but we're murdering them at the end.

Fun fact, when I was in high school, a guy ran for Homecoming Queen. He wasn't trans, he was just a vaguely trollish and popular class clown. They let him run, he lost tge vote, and he even got to ride out in one of the convertibles for the non-winners at the Homecoming game, wearing a tux.

As someone who grew up in a Baptist church that was associated with the Southern Baptist Convention, but ALSO with the slightly more liberal Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (we are really in the weeds now),... This was literally the position of the Baptist church at the time.
