crimson desert was a "playground," but Witcher is a real "world." Can't wait for the next expansion.

Medallion's humming... that can only mean one thing! It's time to announce The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past! ⚔️
Geralt of Rivia stands ready for combat. He looks over his left shoulder and unsheathes his sword. Behind him is a monster made of twisted branches and twigs with hollow eyes and an open mouth. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt logo is printed in the center, with an additional logo for Expansion Pack: Songs of the Past on a purple banner underneath.

I built a small experiment while writing: What if you could talk to a character before locking the scene? Test case: StarCraft’s Jim Raynor. Write the background first, then let the character respond like an actor. Useful for: “Would this person really say this here?” Would this help?

Engineers handle hundreds of thousands of lines with text and shortcuts, not fancy GUIs. Text is the one medium that fits in your head completely. Writers building vast worlds need the same. The fancier the tool, the more your story takes the shape of the tool.

Reading game writers on Reddit, I kept seeing the same pain: branching stories break when drafts, choices, quest logic, and world notes drift into separate files. That’s the root of Flotter’s text-first bet.

Branching stories or quests slowing you down? Try Arcweave — one of the most polished tools in the category. Free Basic available. arcweave.com I'm exploring a different angle: a vast world only needs imagination-driven text, shortcuts, a bit of mouse. Text fits in your head completely.

Currently in Crimson Desert. The world is stunning, the combat actually clicks for me, story's not why I'm here. What are you playing this week? #Gaming #GameDev

Game character you'd actually grab a drink with IRL? For me — Edér from Pillars of Eternity. Pipe lit, never in a rush, never judges. Been through everything and still says "wait for better days." I'd pull up a chair. You? #Gaming #PillarsOfEternity

Honest question for gamers: What's the most memorable *choice* you ever made in a game? (not the most epic moment — the moment a decision actually weighed on you) I'm building narrative game tools, want to learn what real "weight" feels like. #NarrativeDesign #GameDev

Pillars of Eternity This was a very good crpg, with a world that feels so deeply developed and cared for. Each party member was interesting and had stories I want to experience, the DLC story was also a delight, and it had a real sense of escalating scale. #gannagaming

I T H E B U R D E N O F B E C O M I N G I An abstract expressionist piece about transformation, exhaustion, and the unbearable weight of growth. Sometimes becoming who you are meant to be feels less like freedom… and more like surviving the collapse of who you were. — The Asylum Art —
The piece captures the silent violence of transformation — the exhaustion that comes with carrying the weight of who we are trying to become. The bowed figure feels suspended between collapse and evolution, as if identity itself has become too heavy to hold. The fractured textures and dripping forms suggest memories, expectations, and unseen pressures accumulating over time, while the pale emptiness surrounding the figure leaves room for both despair and rebirth.

The Burden of Becoming explores the fragile space between identity and dissolution. A solitary figure bends forward beneath an invisible force, surrounded by fractured architecture, smeared textures, and cascading drips that blur the boundary between body and environment. The muted palette of ash, ivory, charcoal, and weathered blue evokes emotional fatigue, while fragments of gold emerge like remnants of resilience hidden beneath ruin.

Rather than depicting pain directly, the painting embodies accumulation — the slow layering of expectation, memory, grief, and self-construction. The figure is not merely breaking; he is being reshaped. The work asks whether transformation is ever graceful, or if becoming always requires a kind of destruction first.

This Mixtape rating reminds me of IGN's recent Crimson Desert review. The lack of story was a bit jarring, but playing it was actually really fun. At least, isn't a "review" something you say after actually playing? Hoping user-centered review culture and outlets gain more strength.

Just finished Crimson Desert — had a blast. Worldbuilding's incredible. I kept hoping for some deeper mystical thread and pushed through to the ending. Didn't quite land for me — but the game itself is great. Maybe Planescape next to scratch that narrative itch >_<

Flotter (flotter.io, in dev). Slogan: "Let every gamer experience deeply narrative stories without language barriers." As a kid in Korea I cracked open game files just to translate and play. That's why stories made in Flotter get free AI translation — request order, not real-time.

Reading "writing tools" complaint threads on r/gamedev, r/RPGdesign, r/Screenwriting. Same pain everywhere: branching collapses. 30+ branches in, you can't tell what still resolves, what's broken, what you abandoned. Building Flotter to fix this.

Question for narrative designers & game writers: What's the *one* thing in your current writing tool that makes you want to scream? (Asking because we're building an alternative — and I want to make sure we don't recreate the same pain.)

Pillars of Eternity. Witcher 3. BG3. Divinity. Replayed all of them. Kept wondering what tools writers actually use. Plenty exist — Yarn Spinner, Arcweave, Twine. Building Flotter in this direction: text + keyboard shortcuts, branching stories faster. How do you write yours?

Inspired by Pillars of Eternity, the Divinity series, and The Witcher series, we're starting from the ground up to create narrative tools that will help writers build their own unique stories. Have you ever been inspired by such worlds?
