I S E L F - P O R T R A I T 1 I A #self-portrait ofme. The person I’m trying to get back to. I gained 40 kilo’s due to medication and #cptsd, now I’m trying to get back to my old self using #wegovy. If you want to follow along please follow on IG www.instagram.com/my_journey_back_to_myself_yb
The photograph captures a quiet, almost dreamlike interior in stark black and white. A solitary, blurred figure stands behind a glass wall in the distance, partially obscured by layers of reflection, light, and architectural structure. Dark railings cut sharply across the foreground, creating a visual barrier between the viewer and the figure.

The overwhelming brightness and soft focus give the scene a sense of distance and emotional detachment. The person appears present yet unreachable—as though separated from the world by more than glass. Strong vertical lines, geometric railings, and the receding architecture emphasize isolation, while the hazy figure becomes almost ghostlike.

There is a haunting ambiguity to the image: it feels simultaneously like a moment of observation and a moment of disappearance. A photograph about distance, isolation, and the feeling of being seen without truly being reached.

I T H E S I L E N C E B E T W E E N S K I N I Some things are never spoken. They remain beneath the skin, in the silence, the scars, and the spaces between what we feel and what we dare to say. #AbstractArt #ContemporaryArt #EmotionalArt #CPTSD #art #Vulnerability #InnerWorld #FineArt
— The Asylum Art —

A fragmented study of intimacy, vulnerability, and everything left unspoken. The face emerges through layers of scraped pigment and shadow, while the lips remain closed, holding words that never found their way out. Flecks of darkness interrupt the pale surface like fragments of memory, suggesting that beneath the quiet exterior, something restless remains.

The raw textures and fractured layers blur the boundary between body and emotion, turning skin into a landscape of memory, restraint, and quiet longing.

— The Asylum Art —

A sky suspended between darkness and dawn, where storm clouds give way to warmth. Layers of crimson, rose, ochre, violet, and deep blue collide and dissolve, creating a landscape that feels less like a place and more like an emotional state. A flock of birds moves through the turbulent light, small, fragile silhouettes carrying the quiet promise of freedom.

The painting speaks of surviving the storm without pretending it never happened. Even within the darkest layers, light remains.

I T H E W E I G H T B E N E A T H I Some burdens cannot be seen. They settle beneath the skin, beneath the silence, beneath the strength we show the world. — The Asylum Art — #TheWeightBeneath #AbstractExpressionism #ContemporaryArt #EmotionalArt #Impasto #FigurativeArt #ArtOfHealing
The Weight Beneath portrays a man caught between vulnerability and endurance. His bowed head and fragmented features seem to retreat inward, while the powerful structure of his body remains exposed and undeniable. Thick, scraped layers of charcoal, ash, ivory, muted flesh tones, rust, and gold create the sensation of a body carrying something too heavy to name.

The fractured brushwork refuses polished beauty. Instead, it reveals the tension between strength and fragility, the quiet exhaustion of holding oneself together when something inside is already beginning to break apart. Gold glimmers through the darkness like traces of something still surviving beneath the wounds.

This striking self-portrait explores the interplay between light and darkness, utilizing high-contrast natural lighting to split the subject's face down the middle. One half is illuminated in a warm, golden glow that highlights texture, freckles, and thoughtful eyes, while the other sinks into deep shadow. The stark division creates a moody, introspective atmosphere, symbolizing duality, hidden facets of identity, and the quiet moments of self-reflection captured through the lens.

Where the Light Still Burns is a moody, atmospheric exploration of beauty emerging from darkness. Against a weathered landscape of charcoal, rust, and burnt umber, a radiant sphere of golden light breaks through the shadows, casting warmth across delicate, withered seedpods.
The fragile silhouettes reach into the fading glow, evoking resilience, impermanence, and the quiet persistence of life. The distressed textures and gilded fragments suggest a world shaped by time, loss, and transformation, a reminder that even in the deepest darkness, something within us continues to burn.

I T H E W E I G H T O F S O L I T U D E I A powerful new charcoal study exploring the raw physicality of introspection and vulnerability — The Asylum Art — #CharcoalDrawing #FineArt #FigurativeArt #EmotionalArt #TheWeightOfSolitude #StudioArt #BlackAndWhiteArt #monochrome #cptsd #art
This evocative charcoal drawing, rendered in a dramatic chiaroscuro style, captures a raw, vulnerable moment of self-containment. The viewer is presented with a close-up, back-view of a figure with disheveled, curly hair, who is deeply hunched forward, almost retreating into themselves. The pose is protective and melancholic, conveying profound introspection and perhaps sorrow, as the figure’s own hands grip tightly onto their opposite shoulders and arms.
The execution emphasizes texture and form; the deep, smudged shadows of the background contrast sharply with the detailed musculature, spine, and shoulder blades of the figure. The visible cross-hatching and blending marks inherent to charcoal add a sense of tactile immediacy, as if the viewer is witnessing the artist's direct exploration of emotional weight. It is a powerful depiction of the physical and psychological experience of isolation.

I R A D I E N T E C H O E S I Capturing the vibrant, chaotic beauty of feeling completely radiant from within. Introducing my latest abstract expressionist piece, "Radiant Echoes." #AbstractExpressionism #FineArt #ContemporaryArt #Blueskyart #cptsd #abstract #expressionism #CreativeProcess
Radiant Echoes is a visceral exploration of internal radiance, capturing the overwhelming, complex emotional resonance of feeling deeply seen and strikingly beautiful. Channeling the raw, kinetic energy of mid-century abstract expressionism, the piece layers vibrant strokes of magenta, luminous gold, and electric turquoise against a textured, muted ground.
Dynamic gestural marks and sweeping black calligraphic arcs sweep across the canvas, symbolizing the fleeting, uncontainable nature of confidence and grace. Rather than offering a literal portrait, the chaotic yet harmonious interplay of color and thick impasto texture evokes the sheer feeling of warmth, luminosity, and emotional resonance radiating from within.

A storm of emotion made visible. Tempest Within captures the moment when everything held beneath the surface breaks loose: the violent surge, the darkness underneath, and the fragile traces of light caught in the chaos. Thick, fractured layers of midnight blue, charcoal, teal, and icy white collide like waves against an unseen shore. The painting becomes a metaphor for inner turmoil: overwhelming, powerful, and impossible to contain, yet strangely beautiful in its destruction.

A solitary figure disappears into a fractured world of shadow and rain. The pale passage ahead offers no promise of arrival, only distance. "The Weight of Distance" captures a profound moment of quiet resilience. Set against a desolate shoreline, a solitary figure trudges forward where the dark, jagged earth meets the cold, churning tide. Heavy charcoal-blacks anchor the foreground in a dense metaphor of the unknown, while spectral pale blues bleed upward into a thick, swallowing fog. The fractured, heavily textured paint application maps out an inner landscape of vast, unresolved sorrow. Yet, despite the fragility and fading hope of the surrounding light, the traveler maintains an unyielding momentum toward the unseen horizon.

solitary figure folds inward, caught between vulnerability and self-protection. His gaze meets the viewer, yet his body remains guarded, as though being seen is both a longing and a threat. Thick, fractured layers of paint break across the figure and the surrounding darkness, transforming the original stillness into something raw and wounded.

The black, charcoal, rust, and muted earth tones create an atmosphere of isolation, while flashes of light cling to the body like fragments of a self that refuses to disappear. I Y O U K N O W W H O Y O U A R E I Some goodbyes are not endings, but wounds we learn to carry. I leave you with all the love my heart cannot say aloud. You will forever be a piece of me. — The Asylum Art — #Goodbye #DearFriend #Heartbreak #Grief #Love #Memories #Forever
How do you say goodbye to someone who has become a piece of your soul?

You were never simply a friend. You became a place in my heart—a place where I could rest, laugh, be understood, and simply exist without having to explain myself. Somewhere along the way, your presence became woven into the fabric of my life so deeply that I never imagined what it would feel like to have to live without it.

And now, somehow, I have to let you go.

There is a particular kind of heartbreak in saying goodbye to someone you still love. It is not a clean ending. It is carrying a thousand memories in trembling hands and knowing you can never step back into them. It is hearing an old song and feeling your absence before the first note has even finished. It is wanting to reach for you out of habit, only to remember that you are no longer there.

I wish I could tell you that time will make this easier. Maybe it will. But tonight, all I know is that my heart does not understand why someone who meant so much to me must become a memory.

You will live in the quiet places of me—in the laughter that suddenly reminds me of you, in the stories I will tell for years, in the moments when I catch myself wishing I could hear your voice one more time.

Thank you for finding me in this life. Thank you for every beautiful moment, every shared silence, every laugh that made the world feel lighter. Thank you for being someone I was lucky enough to love.

Goodbye, my dear friend.

I hope you never doubt how deeply you were loved.

And if a piece of my heart feels missing after you leave, it is because I left it with you.

I will carry the rest of my heart forward, but I know now that some part of me will always be standing at this goodbye, wishing I had one more minute, one more conversation, one more chance to say:

I love you.
And I will miss you for as long as I remember how to miss you.

A minimalist monochrome meditation on transformation, Where Silence Takes Flight depicts a fragile procession of butterflies emerging from darkness. White and ash-gray wings dissolve into rough brushstrokes, splatters, and fading silhouettes, suggesting beauty that is fleeting, imperfect, and always in motion. A fractured night of black, indigo, and icy blue, scattered with distant points of light. Textures dissolve into mist and shadow, creating a landscape that feels suspended between earth and cosmos. It speaks of darkness not as an ending, but as the space where light becomes most visible.

— The Asylum Art —

The Weight of Silence is a study of vulnerability and quiet despair. Ink, charcoal, and fractured washes dissolve the figure into shadow, while the lowered gaze suggests an inner world that cannot, or will not, be spoken. The unfinished edges become part of the meaning: a portrait slowly disappearing beneath the weight of what remains unsaid.

Where the Storm Ends explores the fragile space between despair and hope. A lone figure stands before a violent sea, dwarfed by waves and an immense, fractured sky. Yet beyond the darkness, a muted light breaks through, quietly suggesting that even the fiercest storms cannot erase the possibility of dawn.

Where the Fog Remembers captures Venice as a place suspended between memory and disappearance. The cathedral emerges from the mist like something half-remembered, while the solitary gondolier moves through dark, reflective water. Heavy textures, fractured light, and muted sepia tones create a sense of longing, a city that feels less like a place and more like a memory slowly fading.

I T H E W E I G H T W E C A R R Y I Some battles leave no visible scars. The Weight We Carry explores the quiet burden of grief, shame, and survival, the moments when simply remaining is an act of courage. #ContemporaryArt #FigurativeArt #MentalHealth #Art #cptsd #man #shame #courage
— The Asylum Art —

The Weight We Carry captures a solitary adult man folded into himself, his body becoming both shield and prison. Rendered in muted monochrome tones with raw, tactile textures, the work reveals strength hidden beneath vulnerability. Every muscle is carefully defined, yet the posture speaks not of physical exhaustion, but of emotional gravity. It is a portrait of the silent moments we rarely witness, the weight of memory, loss, and resilience carried without words. Rather than offering resolution, the painting invites the viewer to sit with the quiet truth that healing often begins in the darkest, most private places.

I W H I S P E R S B E F O R E B L O O M I Some flowers don’t shout for attention, they unfold in quiet confidence. This work celebrates the beauty of becoming, where every delicate line carries the memory of growth and every petal is an act of resilience. #ContemporaryArt #Watercolor #Art
Whispers Before Bloom captures the fleeting elegance of an iris suspended between emergence and remembrance. Rendered with delicate ink lines and translucent washes, the flower feels both botanical and deeply human, its petals marked by time, softness, and quiet strength. Layers of muted blush, warm ochre, and weathered gold suggest that beauty is not found in perfection, but in the traces left behind by experience. It is a meditation on grace, resilience, and the silent transformations that shape us long before the world notices we have begun to bloom.

I W H E R E T H E S E A R E M E M B E R S I Some storms don’t arrive to destroy us, they arrive to reveal our depth. Where the Sea Remembers is a meditation on power, silence, and the beauty hidden inside relentless motion. #AbstractArt #ContemporaryArt #Seascape #Painting #Art #cptsd
— The Asylum Art —

Where the Sea Remembers captures the ocean not as a place, but as a state of being. The cresting wave becomes a portrait of memory itself, restless, immense, and forever reshaping what came before. Thick, expressive textures and layered blues evoke both violence and grace, while the pale horizon offers no certainty, only space.

The work explores the tension between surrender and resilience. Every surge carries traces of what has been lost, yet every breaking wave is also an act of becoming. It reminds us that strength is rarely still; it is found in the courage to keep moving, even when the sea refuses to be calm.

I A S H E S O F G R A C E I Some falls don’t end in ruin, they become the place where transformation begins. Ashes of Grace is a meditation on resilience, vulnerability, and the quiet strength found after the wings can no longer carry us. #ContemporaryArt #CharcoalArt #FallenAngel #Art
— The Asylum Art —

Ashes of Grace captures the fragile moment between collapse and renewal. Rendered in expressive charcoal, the winged figure kneels beneath the weight of unseen burdens, its face consumed by shadow while its fractured wings remain defiantly outstretched. The raw marks and smudged textures evoke both violence and tenderness, suggesting that brokenness is not the opposite of beauty, but one of its deepest forms.

Rather than portraying defeat, the work invites reflection on the resilience that emerges when identity survives loss. It is a portrait of endurance, of finding grace not in perfection, but in the courage to remain, even after the fall.

I B E N E A T H T H E A S H O F S I L E N C E I Some emotions never disappear, they settle beneath the surface, waiting to be seen. This work is a portrait of resilience hidden beneath shadow, where every mark carries the weight of what words cannot. #ContemporaryArt #Monochrome #Art
Beneath the Ash of Silence explores the fragile boundary between concealment and revelation. Inspired by expressive charcoal, ink splatters, and raw gestural mark-making, the portrait emerges from darkness as though memory itself is taking shape. The young man’s features are both defined and dissolving, suggesting an identity forged through vulnerability rather than certainty.

The restrained monochrome palette strips away distraction, allowing texture, shadow, and negative space to speak with quiet intensity. Every drip, scratch, and fractured brushstroke becomes part of an emotional landscape where sorrow, endurance, and hope coexist. Rather than depicting despair, the work reflects the quiet strength required to remain present when parts of ourselves feel lost, revealing that even beneath ash, something essential continues to breathe.

— The Asylum Art —

Where the Sea Keeps Its Silence explores the fragile boundary between presence and absence. A lone figure stands at the edge of an endless shoreline, dwarfed by the vastness of sea, sky, and shadow. The sweeping line of luminous surf cuts through the darkness like a quiet memory, guiding the eye toward a horizon that never fully reveals itself.

Rendered in layered textures, muted blues, and deep charcoal blacks, the work transforms an ordinary coastline into an emotional landscape. It is less about loneliness than about the rare stillness that allows us to hear ourselves again. Here, silence is not empty, it is expansive, patient, and quietly alive.

I S C A R L E T W H I S P E R S I Not every flower blooms to be admired. Some bloom to remember. Scarlet Whispers captures the fragile balance between boldness and vulnerability, where a single line is enough to hold an entire life together. #ContemporaryArt #AbstractArt #Minimalism #Poppies

Scarlet Whispers explores the quiet power of simplicity. Inspired by the delicate tension between loose ink lines and vibrant fields of crimson, the work celebrates imperfection as beauty rather than flaw. The poppies appear both weightless and resilient, their fluid contours suggesting memories that refuse to fade. Against an open, luminous background, each bloom becomes a meditation on presence, loss, and renewal, proof that the strongest emotions are often expressed with the lightest touch.

When the Sky Remembered transforms a rain-soaked Venice into an emotional landscape where architecture becomes memory and birds become fleeting thoughts. The towering silhouette rises through mist as hundreds of dark wings fracture the quiet, dissolving the boundary between earth and sky. Thick, expressive textures and a restrained monochrome palette evoke solitude, impermanence, and the strange beauty found in moments that feel both fleeting and eternal. It is a meditation on stillness interrupted, on how even chaos can become a form of grace when viewed through the lens of remembrance.

Where the Sky Remembers explores the quiet dialogue between earth and sky. Inspired by expressive ink washes and layered monochrome textures, the work transforms an ordinary river into a place suspended between memory and weather. The reflective water becomes a mirror for absence, while the restless clouds suggest emotions that never fully disappear. Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting invites viewers into an interior landscape, one where stillness carries weight, light survives the storm, and every shadow holds the echo of something once loved.

I A R O S E T H A T N E V E R L O O K E D A W A Y I Strength doesn’t always arrive with armor. Sometimes it stands bare, meets your eyes without flinching, and offers a single rose instead. A Rose That Never Looked Away is about vulnerability that refuses to surrender. #photography
A Rose That Never Looked Away explores the quiet power of exposure. Stripped of every layer except the essentials, the figure confronts the viewer with an unwavering gaze while a white rose softens the threshold between tenderness and resolve. In monochrome, light becomes touch and shadow becomes memory, revealing that true courage is not the absence of vulnerability, but the willingness to be seen exactly as you are. The portrait invites us to discover that beauty and strength often bloom from the same unguarded moment.
