Farage wanting to kick people out of the country because they migrated here made me angry and made me think about which best of British people and things wouldn't have happened were it not for the brilliance of immigration to the UK.
Sgt Peppers album cover consisting of things that only made it because of immigration in to the UK, either immigrants themselves, the children of or as a result of someone else coming here.

Over the next few weeks in the lead up to the festival, all of us on the blogging team will be featuring the authors who are taking part. George Square
by Jackie Kay

My seventy-seven-year-old father
put his reading glasses on
to help my mother do the buttons
on the back of her dress.
‘What a pair the two of us are!’
my mother said, ‘Me with my sore wrist,
you with your bad eyes, your soft thumbs!’

And off they went, my two parents
to march against the war in Iraq,
him with his plastic hips, her with her arthritis
to congregate at George Square where the banners
waved at each other like old friends, flapping,
where they’d met for so many marches over their years,
for peace on earth, for pity’s sake, for peace, for peace.

Top Ten Tuesday 6th May 2025: Authors Who Live In My Country #Scotland | #TopTenTuesday #amreading #bookrecommendations #TuesdayBookBlog
This week's topic: Authors Who Live In My Country Today's topic was submitted by Jennifer @ Funk-N-Fiction and we've to come up with ten authors who live in our country (or state). I've chosen ten authors who live in Scotland and chosen a book from each which I especially enjoyed. These are authors I rate highly and whose books I highly recommend.

So Trump controls the stock market because he's in charge of tariffs, so to speak. So he buys low, i.e. yesterday, and announces some "good news" about tariffs today. Stock market bounces up. After some time, again "bad news" and the stock market dips again. He will do that over and over.

Here’s a poem about going for a walk to clear my head of all the news.
Escape into Nature

There are times when it all gets too much
and I have to switch off my phone and the radio
and my brain, and escape outside.

I say good afternoon to next door’s dog.
Have you seen the latest about the government, he barks,
you couldn’t make it up. I offer a weak smile
and make my excuses before walking on past the pub,
whose sign creaks in protest
against the steep rise in the cost of living.

From the tall branches of a tree, a seminar
is in progress: a squirrel sets out his ideas
about how to alleviate the refugee crisis,
while a chaffinch flaps his wings angrily.
It all gets too much for one leaf,
who hurls itself down, remembering Trump.

I feel the eyes of a murderous-looking crow upon me,
annoyed no doubt about global warming,
so make my way down to the river where –
for a few precious, stolen moments –
I close my eyes and listen to the water
as it laps gently against the bank,

until I hear the slap of wet feet approaching.
Thought I’d find you here, the duck quacks,
Now what the hell we gonna do about Putin?

I've spent today working on some personal letters from 1938 in prep for next book. Then I turned on the news. Praying America can stop these bullies from destroying everything their nation has stood for, because it wasn't Zelensky who disrespected the Oval Office today. This was written in Nov 1938.
