Irish Goodbye

my father died at seventy-one, ten years after my mother, on his third wife. he made no children with this one— she came with two boys. at the funeral i read something from the bible. i don't remember what. my friend, who was a priest at the time, performed the mass. when we carried the casket out to the hearse the older boy crumpled to the ground. i remember guinness at the doherty hotel near the church. i don't remember the wake.
