when i worked at whole foods, some of my friends would jokingly give me grief about spending money sometimes buying small chunks of roquefort cheese for like $10, or whatever other expensive thing (beer, alaskan salmon, morel mushrooms), and i'd be just be like, "you can't take it with you."

cheese - also wine, beer, fish... even some produce - are things that, when you get the good shit, it actually does hit different.

reminds me that i once loved heinlein's "starship troopers" as a kid and thought the philosophy in the first half was interesting and persuasive. i was also a nerd, probably like 10 years old, with a republican dad, i had not been laid or hit a joint, yet, and had no idea about fucking anything...

also, i would love to hear the people who say this kind of shit list some historical examples of "benevolent dictators." there's a reason the quote about how absolute power corrupts absolutely is so famous...

this. i'm willing concede that there are a bunch of people hesitant to admit they'll still vote for a trumpist GOP, but they're not 10% of the electorate... while obviously some folks will "come home" and vote GOP, i doubt there are enough of those to stop the backlash vote...

while i appreciate him admitting that he's intentionally trying to *permanently* ruin HHS, i also take some solace in the fact that history is absolutely littered with losers like him who thought winning a few battles meant that would be the end of it. nothing is ever truly settled.

U.S. forces are retreating. That's what this means. "Pulled out and returned to their home stations in the U.S. as potential Iranian threats raise base security concerns" is a fancy way of saying the Iranian military has the U.S. military in retreat. This is unbelievably embarrassing.

The breast cancer center appealed thousands of Blue Cross reimbursements for being too low. At trial, the insurer revealed that it had never considered any of the appeals — and that they were pointless: “An appeal is not available to review an underpayment.” (Published April 2025)

“Slow Pay, Low Pay or No Pay”: Trial Reveals How Insurers Try to Wield Power Over Doctors
Blue Cross authorized mastectomies and breast reconstructions for women with cancer but refused to pay the full doctors’ bills. A jury called it fraud and awarded the practice $421 million.

something that's sunk in for me over the years since trump was first elected is that there truly is a meaningful slice of society that are just sincerely dumb assholes. not saying the ratio is necessarily inherent/static, but there are enough of them to make things miserable if normies don't unite.

One thing that Trumpism has made clear over and over again is that the global far right understands itself to be in a ideological alliance the helps itself across borders, and the center and left largely do not.

yup. as cheap/empty as him trying to bribe people by saying, "if you keep congress red, i'll pay you, after," is (and good luck to anyone who believes that, coming from trump), it should shock the sensibility of normies that a president suggests he could do good, but will only do so conditionally.

Normalization is treating the president stealing from taxpayers to buy campaign ads and offer bribes to voters like it's just another day. Normalization is reacting with "won't work" or "polls poorly," and not "resign immediately or you'll be removed, we exist because of a revolution against that."

having seen this idea a few times over the last few years, my main two points would be: 1) what good would nuclear reactors on the moon even do? are we gonna somehow run a line back down to earth? or are we supposed to use it like the most inefficient battery charger system ever designed?...

If we lived in a functioning democracy, major newspapers would run Page 1 editorials pleading with people to vote out the Republicans to save us from a fascist dictatorship. But most of the mainstream media have run out of bravery, if they ever had any.

Trump: "These Rallies are the hottest things out there, tremendous love in those sold out arenas, and nothing shows up on Fox! Also, phenomenal ratings for those that properly report. Who makes these decisions at FoxNews? Probably the same loser that fired the great Maria Bartiromo"
Trump: "Sad to see that Fox & Friends (Sunday) is not covering our packed house and incredibly enthusiastic (beyond!) Rally that took place in Ohio last night, or the ones in Alabama, Texas, or Oklahoma over the past two days. These Election Rallies were representative of what is really happening with our great Republican Party. They were all sold out, with thousands of people trying to get in, and are absolutely phenomenal, better than ever! It’s the old undercurrent at FoxNews! Other networks are reporting about these Rallies, and really positively, like 'crazy!' Our people want to see our Rallies, and reports on our Rallies, on FoxNews, or they will very quickly stop watching (like I am doing right now!). Fox spends more time talking to Communists, Socialists, and Dumocrats, often without rebuttal, and MAGA is not, to put it mildly, happy. We don’t like stupid Jessica Tarlov, and all of the others, that are forced down MAGA’S throats. These Rallies are the hottest things out there, tremendous love in those sold out arenas, and nothing shows up on Fox! Also, phenomenal ratings for those that properly report. Who makes these decisions at FoxNews? Probably the same loser that fired the great Maria Bartiromo because she complained about not being allowed to cover 'TRUMP.' She’ll end up bigger and better than ever - watch! Cover our 'happenings,' and not the opposition to Greatness for America, or FoxNews will soon have the ratings of FAKE NEWS CNN or MSNOW (MSDNC). Remember, Fox tried this act once before, and almost went out of business (and always right before an election!). That can happen again! Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT"

It decimated the federal workforce - not overhauled it. The elimination of expertise. The destruction of capacity. It also did NOT slash government spending. Spending is UP. It has been reallocated to the secret police and military. Stop publishing falsehoods.
