TIL that Johnny Appleseed wasn’t planting apple orchards for people to eat apples (I guess eating apples come from grafting, not seeds which also didn’t realize) but to make hard cider bc cider was one of the only ways for frontier people to experience sweetness as sugar & honey were hard to come by

Some of us are immensely privileged that we can find locally sourced food or simply give up certain foods we don’t trust, but people in poverty are gonna have to buy that beef and lettuce. Idk sometimes it can be really tone deaf on here. Like, real people are being impacted in real time.
