Do you have any idea how emotionally difficult it is to carry a fetus that you know will not result in a healthy baby? When your body is still sending your brain all of the physical indications of pregnancy? It’s a form of torture I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

Even in a world where everyone’s needs are met, abortion care is always going to be needed. There are maternal illnesses (like cancer) that can’t be treated while pregnant. There are fetal issues identified prenatal that will result in deaths shortly after birth, etc.

The people of Sackets Harbor—and especially the school administrators and teachers—should serve as an example for us all that resistance can work. You do not need to comply in advance. The Trump administration is powerful, but not invincible.

This story is a reminder to journalists that reporting on things happening in the smallest places can have the largest impact. My hats off to the local journalists who first made noise about this miscarriage of justice. I feel fortunate that I could help amplify it, and that we can celebrate this small but powerful victory.

And we can rest a little easier knowing the third grader will finally get to see the welcome home banner hung by classmates with love.

I know the poem and I am a socialist. It is my job to meet people where they are at and help them reach a more developed view of politics. There are some people who are going to be unreachable, but most people do not have an ideologically consistent framework for understanding the world.

Defendants contend that Burkle could have used the shower water to clean the feces and vomit from the cell floor. Further, Defendants argue that Burkle's defecation and vomiting was less severe than that previously held to violate the Eighth Amendment in Taylor v. It is well-established that filthy and unsanitary cell conditions may violate a prisoner's Eighth Amendment rights.
