It's not necessary to use generative AI to create images of the #Voynich Manuscript, so why do people continue to do it? There is so much wrong in this online image. Neither of the pages shown here is actually from the manuscript. The verso is labeled "r" ("recto") & the language is not Voynichese.

Just got around the watching the #Voynich = moonwater + menstrual blood TikTok and while I am all for the possibility of the manuscript having been written by women for women, the video's interpretation of the images really doesn't work.

Who's the dummy who universally replaced all of the [-]s and [—]s with [–]s in the 300-page book manuscript I'm editing so that I now have to look at each of the thousands of [–]s and decide if they should be [-] or [—] or [–]. WHO WOULD DO SUCH A THING? Oh, yeah, it was me.

It's said that humanists & scientists have some major methodological differences to work through, but I see now that the REAL problem is footnotes vs. in-text parentheticals. This is definitely not in reference to the book I'm co-editing for which I am the lone humanist in a room full of scientists.
