And keep in mind the numbers are larger. A lot of people didn't sign up. They just showed up. And there were a lot of cars with a lot of flags and a lot of signs - all honking as they went by. If you're only counting the people standing in the street that's a severe undercount.

Final thought: My guess is that it will come out which company is behind the flying of these drones and they'll be heavily fined. Most likely, they've already weighed the cost of this fine. What needs to be addressed is the public hysteria that they've caused and new laws need to be made. 18/18🧵

So, what are we doing? Policymakers, locally and federally are scrambling and debating: Expanding drone tracking systems. Strengthening enforcement of existing rules. Updating legislation to handle modern threats. But progress has been slow, leaving gaps that bad actors could exploit. 17/18 🧵

Why It Matters: The use of drones is expanding, commercial, recreational, and potentially malicious. If we don’t figure out how to regulate and monitor this activity, it’s only a matter of time before these tools are used in ways that could harm people or disrupt systems. 16/18🧵

A coordinated attack using drones on infrastructure like power plants, bridges, or fuel depots could cause cascading failures, widespread blackouts, economic disruption, or worse. Even accidental crashes could result in significant damage. 15/18🧵

Flying near military installations is especially concerning. These areas are no-fly zones for drones under FAA rules, but enforcement is challenging. Security experts warn that drones could gather intelligence or pose risks during flights. 14/18🧵

Why shouldn't drones be around infrastructure? Drones could interfere with power grids. Surveillance could reveal vulnerabilities. Even weaponized drones, though rare, could target vital systems, causing widespread disruption. 13/18🧵

There are only ten states that specifically restrict drone access near critical facilities and infrastructures: Arkansas, Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Louisiana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas. 12/18 🧵

IMO what we need is new legislation. Unidentifiable drone flights shouldn't be allowed around critical infrastructure. US infrastructure is already weak and vulnerable as it is. It's outdated and poorly secured with fragmented security practices across different sectors. 11/18 🧵

LiDAR Data = Light Detection and Ranging. in simple terms, it's like using a special flashlight that sends out tiny beams of light to measure how far the ground is. The light bounces back, and the flashlight knows how long it took, so it can make a super-detailed 3D picture of the terrain. 10/18 🧵

IMHO, the reason why everyone is so confused about what is going on is because DHS/FBI doesn't comment on active investigations and since they're technically flying legally, just unidentifiably, they can't be forcibly removed. If this was a national security issue, it would have been handled. 8/18🧵

The drones have been flying without remote ID active which is why you're hearing reports that they're "undetectable". Remote ID is a system that allows drones to broadcast information about their location and identification to other people 5/18 🧵

What's the biggest challenge? The legality. Current FAA rules regulate drone activity, but these unmanned systems often operate in a gray zone, making it tough to determine who is flying them and for what purpose. 4/18🧵

I have a hard time believing that drones would be allowed to continue flying around if they were doing so illegally, IT IS spotlighting the need for revised legislation. Drones should not be allowed to be flying around critical infrastructure/military in this new era of cyberwarfare. 3/18 🧵
