I wonder if this will spark a conversation... I'm a democratic socialist, not because I want others to have less so I can have more, but because I have it pretty good due to public resources, so I want to make sure that everyone can have it pretty good from public resources.

I recently decided to join the local TCDSA (Twin Cities Democratic Socialists of America), and I imagine people close to me who already know have some... Opinions. That's fine :) Just to clear things up, though, I tried to summarize what I understand about their platform.

Protesting surveillance capitalism has its upsides, but without constructive action it's just yelling into the void. Breaking stuff is a bad idea for obvious reasons but it also doesn't achieve anything. Hosting your own services to replace them is more effective. codeberg.org/kaizenOramar...

Data centers use power to do math, but the input and the output are both electricity. The output signals just go on to drive displays. All electrical current generates heat. That heat is managed by systems that make more heat. TL;DR - an AI image was literally rendered on a toaster.

Well then. Apparently according to reddit, calling for a certain someone to be arrested and thrown into jail immediately instead of bothering with impeachment counts as a call for violence. SMH

The right wing reactions to the Super Bowl opener and halftime were just as hilarious as I expected 🤣 the actual performances were incredible as well, I didn't watch them live but I watched clips on YouTube

How in the ever loving hell is law enforcement allowed to commit war crimes

Matt Ferrie @ferriematthew.bsky.social · 26/01/2026

Kind of sucks how I can't say what I actually really really want to say about this situation without getting banned and potentially put on some lists. It's really hard to be a student only a few dozen miles away from an active war zone.

Piracy will remain inevitable for the foreseeable future because we do not have adequately robust digital archival technology. Every storage device on earth slowly fails/rots. You are not an antisocial, criminal force. You are doing your part serving as valuable cultural memory.

Absolutely, if I had any control over the situation the DHS would no longer exist and everyone involved with the DHS no matter how indirectly would be in prison

Since I'm teaching myself how vpns and overlay networks function, and practicing self hosting everything, I guess I'm building skills that I would need if society keeps falling apart like this!

I read that Green Day is going to be doing the opening show for the Super Bowl this year. That is going to be incredibly entertaining to watch, and even more entertaining to watch the MAGA base LOSE IT 🤣

We cannot normalize this federal occupation of Minneapolis. It is not normal to watch people abducted in front of our eyes—dragged from car windows, pulled from their homes, and children left without parents. This is not about immigration. It’s about unchecked cruelty.

Greenland. Epstein. 4th Amendment (search and seizure). 10th Amendment (policing). Ballroom. Pardons. Fishing boats. Emoluments clause. What else do we need to invoke the 25th Amendment? Ducking cowards aren’t doing their job. Remove the declining narcissistic pedophile now.

I am not exaggerating when I say ICE functions as a terrorist organization in the Twin Cities. The goal seems to be to harass and frighten people (the ones who are lucky enough to not be abducted, at least) and it's deeply unsettling when you learn they're in your neighborhood.

There’s no 2 sides to what’s happening in Minneapolis. ICE is WRONG. They need to LEAVE. Terrorizing your own people puts us on the same level as China, Russia, or North Korea. A year ago we were a DEMOCRACY. Now we’re living in fear within our own borders.

To say that I am appalled that the Geneva conventions do not appear to apply to "law enforcement", would be a massive understatement.

Wake up babe, new JWST image just dropped 💯 🔭 🧪

A close-in image of a protoplanetary disc around a newly formed star. Many different wavelengths of light are combined and represented by separate and various colours. A dark line across the centre is the disc, corresponding to the densest parts of the disc, made of opaque dust: the star is hidden in here and creates a strong glow in the centre. A band going straight up is a jet, while other outflows above and below the disc, and a tail coming off to one side.
