✨New!✨ moneyontheleft.org/2026/06/20/t... @feinig.bsky.social translates & introduces an early essay by Jean-Michel Servet. This work inspired Graeber's critical popularization of the "myth of barter." Yet Servet's project goes further by also affirming money’s pro-social powers. Please share! 🙌

What happens when you're drawn to MMT, only to have a jarring realization: that many in the community reject the idea that money is based on trust? In our new episode, @robbhawkes.bsky.social discusses this exact moment and his work to build a new theory of trust for neochartalism.

I'm thrilled to share our latest article for the MotL journal! Here, Rob Hawkes does important work rethinking the bases of social trust by affirming the fundamental publicness of monetary systems & eschewing the anti-social assumptions baked into exchange theories of "calculated risk." Must read!

I'm biased, but this is the best art in the MOTL series. Hale Woodruff, "Gate to the Campus" [Spelman College], 1935, black-and-white linocut. Come for the art, stay for the endogenous money creation.

MMT tells us that $USD is actually many denominations of credit distinct institutional histories (cash, bank notes, bank deposits, reserve balances, etc.) which give the *impression* of a homogeneous currency because of institutions that exchange them 1:1. Why is this especially important now? 1/
